If it really is a issue as far as liability for the club then the club needs to stop running rallies! You can't control what someone does during a rally!

Starting to sound like a previous forum we all posted on....

Take it up at the get together in Watertown.......

I am sure the Casino will setup the boxing ring. :-)

I know who cares what I have to say, but it is true.

My 2 cents.

Well said.

Jack

If you have suggestion as to how to keep the speeds down I would certainly like to see it.

I really would like to keep this as a positive discussion.

As far as who cares I think most of us do. I have only only been around people who do these kinds of rally's for 5 years and I would like to keep seeing all of you for good while longer. I have already lost one person that I considered a good friend and another who was seriously hurt both were directly connected to speed while competing in rallies.

This is not a simple problem and I don't think a mileage cap, or putting your license in an envelope will help. I also want more people to participate not less so I don't agree with Jack's suggestion of not inviting people back either.

Is the solution in the types of bonuses ?

Is the solution in how the points are awarded ?

My name is Jeff and yes I exceed the speed limit at rally's. Smile

We have everyone keep track of miles and time, so why don't we just put them in a spreadsheet that will automatically calculate the average speed between the two locations? Just a thought, and here is what I see wrong ( any idea is better than sitting around bitching about it).
1. This won't show if you went 100mph for a little while.
2. You could speed to the next location, wait, then leave when your time/distance comes out to something normal.
3. Would need extra scorers at the end of the rally for this, or we would have to change results after the rally if speeding was found.

Why it would work
1. People who drive consistently over the speed limit will get caught.
2. If you know you will be checked on, you will be less likely to speed.

We all follow the rules right? Check out #11 http://www.glmc.org/rally_rules.php

I would hate to see SPOTtracker become mandatory because of alleged or actual speeding, but that may need to happen to keep everyone honest. That's a cost that will chase away riders.

Rallies are for fun, right? Time to step back, calm down, and do this for a fun hobby instead of the personal stature.

Does anyone else have a suggestion?

I could make plaques for everyone so no one is racing to get one. just sayin

"We all follow the rules right? Check out #11 http://www.glmc.org/rally_rules.php"

Wasn't there a rider who got a "performance award" while participating in the
buffalo run? And also received an honor at the awards presentation.

Looks to me like breaking the rules just receives a wink and a nod.

" Seems Ken’s luck didn’t get any better. After borrowing Brion’s bike he got stopped in Storm Lake for a performance award. I’m pretty sure the speedometer was off. Wink"

Beth. I think that pink tire is the wrong size.

RE: Harvest Rally Results - Frump - 10-12-2013 09:10 PM

I don't won't get into on online discussion about trying to controlling excessive speed, but let's be fair to Ken. Getting a speeding ticket coming out of unfamiliar small town for being 5 or 6 mph over the local speed limit before the limit changed would be very hard to categorize by most, if not all of us, as excessive speeding. The BOB award was awarded in regard to Ken's streak of shitty luck for the weekend, that ticket being only one item in a series of events for Ken.

RE: Harvest Rally Results - Farmer - 10-12-2013 10:26 PM

"1.Do not cheat".

"11.Do NOT SPEED. This is a rally, not a race. Excessive speed is unsafe, unneeded, and will get you kicked out of the rally, and all future rallies. "

I would say the first three words of # 11 are the intent of the rule, the rest is explanation of why the rule exists, and the consequences of breaking it. Speeding is speeding and doing so has no doubt helped some to better finishes in rally's.

Why have rules if they are just going to be ignored or not enforced when they are broken?
