RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Lapchik - 06-07-2015 08:30 PM As long as there is a sign I would guess so. Have an example? If there is this sign shouldn't there be a fire department with the same name ? They spread these types of signs across the whole fire district around here. Around here that sign would not prove you went to the town. Mike will have the final say JMHO. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Shooter - 06-29-2015 11:07 AM they were excepted in 2012.....just saying ![]() But Jack ran it then....so it's Mike's call..... RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - MikeH - 06-29-2015 12:03 PM Its not a post office or green street sign so technically I've got to count it. That would set off my smells funny meter and I'd do some further investigation into the town existence and location. At the end of the day if I see a couple fire signs here and there I don't fret, if I see 20-30 I'll get upset. Then a rule change like the township thing this year would happen. A state would be helpful, I'm assuming its Warren, MN by Thief River. If it is that's a relatively big town, had to be better photo chances. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - gbarker - 06-30-2015 07:29 PM The sign is from Warren Township, which surrounds Redgranite, Wisconsin. Ten minutes after the photo of the fire address above, I did find the Warren Town Hall with a hand painted sign above the door. I only asked about the address signs because there were a couple townships I could not find the Town Hall. One twp just had a mailbox with a "Town of Marquette Public Announcements" sign stuck on it. Others were "Town of X Cemetery". For the Warren Town Hall (I assume this sign is okay), the next nearest building was a farm house a half mile away. And the nearest "city" limits is for Redgranite, which is about 5 miles away (and of course does not count). Was the intent to have "places" with "city" streets, clusters of houses and an actual "city limit" of sorts? Some of our "towns" here in Wisconsin are barely more than two roads meeting in a cornfield. ![]() Here is the Town Hall for St Marie, Wisconsin. No city limits here, but the grass looks like a nice place for an Iron Butt hotel don't you think? Maybe next year "Go to Town" Grand Tour. Only Town Halls? ![]() RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - MikeH - 07-01-2015 10:27 AM Townships have a little different meaning on the east coast vs. midwest. So that's why I don't allow both the town & township of the same name this year. Both of them look fine to me, behind the St Marie hall would be a perfect napping place. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - scottheinrich - 07-05-2015 09:13 AM This does not count. Garden of the Gods is a park, not a town. ![]() ![]() That big mountain in the background is Cheyenne Mountain. The one that had NORAD in it. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Willie - 07-27-2015 08:26 AM Quick question. I am considering a Spyder so that MeAsWe (girlfriend) can go Pirating with me. She has a problem mounting the FJR. So question is Spyder OK for doing the tour Willie RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - MikeH - 07-27-2015 09:29 AM Riding a Spyder works for me. No Slingshots though, unless you stop by my house and let me drive it. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Willie - 07-27-2015 10:56 AM (07-27-2015 09:29 AM)MikeH Wrote: Riding a Spyder works for me. Where we looked at Spyders that have them. They are huge !!! Willie RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - gbarker - 08-02-2015 09:15 PM Would these count as different towns? This is how they are actually spelled. Lafayette, MN La Fayette, IL Obviously they are close. George Barker GLMC #220 RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - MikeH - 08-03-2015 07:28 PM looks like two differently spelled names to me. RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Lapchik - 08-03-2015 09:12 PM Hey Mike did you get my facebook message about the address change? RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - Babbitt - 08-06-2015 04:56 PM I can't find anything with a sign in Yarnell, WI 54817. However, it is the type of place I like to visit. There is a street named yarnell Rd. Anyplace google street view doesn't go is high up on my list of places to see. Would the street sign work? Not only is it AR, it is YAR! RE: 2015 Grand Tour Questions - gbarker - 08-15-2015 08:51 PM Those unincorporated towns are hit or miss. If they don't have a volunteer fire department, it takes some real searching. Does that Tuscobia Trail have a nearby parking lot with interpretive sign? For what it's worth, I've used an electrical box along the railroad tracks, and in Forward, WI I had to use a nearby substation. We'll see if I get the credit. ![]() Let me know what you find. I'm heading that way on my way home from the Team Lyle Rally in a couple weeks. |
