What would qualify as a 2 point location or is there no 2 point options?
I know of one town that will be in it for the 3rd year in a row.
Looks like a trip to Bob's Bar is in order for sure come springtime!!

That way we could make them ahead of time and on the weekend before the rally there could be a extra item that has to be added to the towel/card to make it "legal" to use in photos.. I dunno.. Just a thought.. Just trying to make it easy for the rally chairman..

Or send out the picture you have to print for your placard the day it starts

One stop is more than enough but if you start at 3:00 AM you should be able to get anywhere you need to be Smile

There is a few of them out there.

Or would it just be considered ARr

I'm not against letting ARR count for two, initial thought was that we did the double R thing last year.

Maybe we can add more things associated with Pirates.....ship, gold, rum, booty, etc. Just a thought.

I had thought of this, still trying to figure out the logistics/rules for it. I was thinking something like, visit any Pirate themed place outside of a "AR" town, up to 10 places. Problem I have is no way to enforce it unless I look up each business. And someone could just go to the Wisconsin Dells and wrap that up.
If anyone finds a town named Steve I will give them 10 points!

I thought about this one for awhile but I wasn't sure how to make it work. Also wouldn't be fair to our east coast riders, tons of towns out there.
Ultimately it comes down to what you want to do on your grand tour.
Going for points to finish high? Then you go where the points are which might include big cities (I swore off Chicago area after the water tour!)
If you are just going for 25 or 50, you can be more selective and stay away from the larger cities.
My favorite part of these tours is going to the small towns since I never had any reason to visit before.

I haven't mapped out the towns yet but with at least 80 in MN and over 100 in IA and guessing near that in WI & IL there should be plenty of opportunities.

Quitcherbitchen or I'll come over and kick you in the shins and take back that bottle of 23 year old Rum you owe me (that I haven't paid for)..

And actually, if you look at AR there's plenty to qualify within a few hours of your place.. Get out for an overnighter or two and you could win this thing!! Smile

Also, I love finding the few doubles and triples that we were able to hunt up last year and was hoping the same could be in this year's???

Harvard Park -- 3 points??

Something on that line?

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - Willie - 12-23-2014 02:40 PM

Quick count out east here including MA, CT, RI, ME, VT, NH, NY, NJ and PA gives me around 572 places to pick from. Is it spring yet ??

Willie

I'm definitely in favour of getting plenty of booty.

I am glad somebody picked up on that one Prop! LOL! Smile

Oh....I'm scared.......That rum is waiting for you Mr. Paleo!

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - MikeH - 01-07-2015 08:28 PM

So if AR shows up more than once you will get a point for each: Harvard Park will be worth three points. HOWEVER you must claim the three points when the photo is submitted. How to claim doesn't matter to me, save in a separate folder on the cd, put a number in front of the name, just something that I can clearly see. My biggest fear when scoring the double tour was missing the double or triple scores.
Don't forget these count too AYE, AHOY, AVAST
Any ideas on additional pirate items to include? I can't figure a way to make it work.

Also working on the rules & getting started on graphics, anybody against the Jolly Roger showing up on the graphic?

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - xander84 - 01-07-2015 08:46 PM

Please, please, please, KEEP the jolly roger on the flag!

Maybe you can claim one town that has all the letters of the word "pirate" in the name?
But, like you said - it needs to be explicitly claimed.
Just an idea.

I think this is a really fun theme.

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - texnmidwest - 01-07-2015 09:41 PM

I like the Jolly Roger! Can we get extra points for dressing like a pirate or carrying a sword? Smile

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - Lapchik - 01-07-2015 10:33 PM

Black Sam or a Calico Jack style graphic?

RE: 2015 Grand Tour Theme - texnmidwest - 01-08-2015 09:38 PM

Black Sam....I am traditionalist.....that's why I wear silk underwear.

I like the dress like a (real) pirate idea, the goofier the costume the better! Require a few pirate items like a 3 corner hat with a BIG feather, Tinfoil Sword, a Jolly Roger flag, eye patch...

I did another rally where we HAD to be in costume AND be in the photo. Lots of hilarity ensued and great memories...there's nothing like riding in Chicago AGATT with a cape and tinfoil on yer helmet!

Anyway, the pirate costume and/or being in the photo makes it a bit more challenging AND meaningful to people who look at our photos afterwards.

The Jolly Roger NEEDS to be the rally flag!!!

FWIW...

Phill

The rules for this year have been reviewed by Frump and myself. Should be ready to post when he has some free time along with entry forms.
