RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - Lapchik - 01-24-2023 10:09 AM Rider of the year [2015]. RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - JohnF - 01-26-2023 10:32 PM I have not seen a clear definition by GLMC of what a mural is. I have found definitions that a mural is painted directly to the surface of a building and that another definition that a mural may be a panel or vinyl sheet (or similar) that is affixed to a building. From a distance they would both appear the same. Close up, one can usually tell if the image is painted directly to the wall/surface. My question: If we find a large image/graphic that is originally painted on one medium and then attached to a building wall, is that considered a "mural" for the 2023 Murals Grand Tour? TIA, John F Rider #207 RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - DownUnder - 01-27-2023 12:02 AM I am sure the the RM will be along shortly with an Official Reply, but my first question would be . . is the image created by hand or is it machine generated ? My understanding is that an image painted by hand onto a vinyl/plastic panel and bolted to a wall should qualify, but a vinyl wrap printed by a machine and applied to a panel and bolted to a wall would not qualify. RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - Lapchik - 01-27-2023 12:40 AM There is more on this specific question in the Q&A thread. http://glmc.org/GLMC_Garage/showthread.php?tid=1110 If it is hand painted and hung, it's fine. Remember, it's for fun and the top prize is an entry fee refund and a plastic plaque. Can't guarantee it's worth a point, but there are no point deductions for anything. Top 3 positions get gold/silver/bronze colored ones, and then there will be 5-10 glow in the dark ones depending on how long the filament lasts. It will come with 6' of carpenter cord [1.83m for you Aussies] so you can position it and pick it up without stooping to the ground. Also works to put on your lever so you don't forget to grab it when you leave. RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - Biggles - 01-28-2023 08:31 AM Looks to be worth fighting for! Maybe just put in the link in the post and let people open it in a new tab. Is that some kind of oil bottle? RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - DownUnder - 02-07-2023 06:08 PM Just back from a GT ride, and I thought I'd share a cropped photo of my favourite mural from the ride. The Glossy Black cockatoo is centre stage, on the left a Goanna is climbing a tree hunting for bird eggs, and on the right is the Long Tailed Emperor butterfly, which can have a wing-span of 85mm (3.5in). RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - Biggles - 02-07-2023 09:33 PM Yep, that's a great use of the side of that building. Here's another building wall, on a 12 storey scale: RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - Camper333 - 02-07-2023 10:30 PM (02-07-2023 11:20 AM)Frump Wrote: Not sure you can share photo on that site as an image here. Just make sure I have the link and am able to view the photos before the end date! RE: 2023 Grand Tour General Discussion - DownUnder - 03-07-2023 10:40 PM (03-06-2023 03:12 PM)Lapchik Wrote: Of those who have been sending in photos as they take them, here are the current scores:. Ive always enjoyed playing around with numbers, so when I saw these progressive results, I started to wonder . . . If these 4 riders are considered as a representative "random" sample, albeit small, then the "average" rider will be scoring around 20 murals each month ( (52+50+33+53)/4/2 ). During the 2016, 2017, & 2019 GT, there was around a 35% DNF rate each year, so if a similar DNF rate happens in 2023, we could expect around 35 riders to finish this year ( 56*0.65 ) So, 35 riders scoring 20 murals per month means that come 30-September, our RM could have around 6,500 murals to evaluate. ( 35*20*9 ) Now, lets assume that our RM takes only 10 seconds to scan and evaluate each mural for size, bike + flag, artistic content, no-graffiti, no-repeat murals, etc, then the math for that task is 6500*10/60/60 which is around a total of 18 hours of continuous screen time. O.M.G. Perhaps 3 monthly photo submissions may be worth considering . . . |
