All of the words in the body of the text of a historical marker or similar marker, count.

How about Est. as in the abbreviation of Established. I rode past a real pretty sign today saying "Welcome To Netcong - Est. 1894"
Thanks!

Just to beat a dead horse

Are we allowed only one FLORIST per state regardless of its name. Similar to FOREST.

I would say that wouldn't count, the word established starts with "est", it doesn't end in "st".

Willie

As long as the florist doesn't have have the same name, you can get multiple per state.

Ok, I got a big one here...very unsure how to count this one. I took a ride to a historic marker and the church was still there with its own stone commemorative plaque set in the front wall along with a lawn sign. I took pics of all 3 signs and made this collage. The sign's say the following:

Green lawn sign:
First Congregational
Church Of Chester

Brown Historic Marker sign:
First Congregational Church
Congregation organized 1740, oldest
of this denomination west of the
Hudson River. Present Church built
1856, notable for Greek Revival
architecture and rare interior
Trompe L'Oeil Painting

White stone plaque on wall:
1st Congregational Church.
1st House of Worship was erected 1747.
2nd in 1803 and the 3rd in 1856.
"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving
and into his courts with praise."
"Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and
put your trust in the Lord."

I count 6 points because I can't use both the lawn sign and title of the marker, but the rest is ok, right? Or is the rule I seem to remember regarding repetition in the historic markers are ok and therefore the lawn sign and marker signs both count and therefore 7 points? What about the stone marker saying "1st Congregational" does that count or does that get nullified by the "First Congregational" on the other signs and therefore maybe this is only 5 points?

Click on the pic if you want to see it larger.

Thanks!

6 points works for me

Also, good example of an online album for submission - good for scoring.
I would just add a state or state abbreviation for each picture as well.

Does Facebook work for an online album? I know you will be able to see my stuff xander84, but I'm sure not everyone here is your fb friend, or has public settings on their profile.

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 05-02-2018 01:58 PM

Facebook is fine.
As long as the album has a way to caption the photo, with point totals and location, I'm good with it.
It's up to each rider whether they want to have an album available to the public.

Cool, thanks!

All my pics do include the state, unless I missed one. They are marked as:
points - description - city state - words claimed

ie:
2 Pts - Flanders Historic District - Flanders NJ - First, Methodist

Click the "list view" in the upper right to see the full names

Got it, I see the full descriptions now.

OK, I am confused again. In your post 12 in answer to post 11, you state, "one Baptist Church per state." Now you say all these Baptists churches count In Jeff's example. We don't know if they are all in the same state (as Jeff does not state that), but if we assume they are all from the same state, then that contradicts your ruling in Post #12. We also don't know if Jeff is asking specifically about the word "Baptists" in the signs. Some of the signs would be worth 2 points (Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church).

So is it one of any kind of Baptist Church per state for the word Baptist? OR Multiple Baptists Churches with some type of associated word, Like Bethlehem Baptist and Wooster Baptists in a state?

TIA,
JEF, Cincinnati, OH

I would count this as one point.

Good catch John, you're correct.
They would need to be in separate states.

Well, at least he gets 3 points out of the lot for First, Rest and Baptist. Only one pic was pointless Big Grin Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun.

I was eagerly awaiting this answer because I have TONS of Baptist and Methodist Churches in my neck of the woods, lol.

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - LSGiant - 05-07-2018 08:49 PM

They were in one state. And I was asking if they are distinct Baptist churches so one Baptist church no matter the flavor. Good to know that is why I posted them.
Thanks

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - rpmendez - 05-09-2018 02:46 PM

One more regarding Baptist....
St John The Baptist Ukranian Catholic Church is ok in addition to First Baptist Church in the same state because the 1st one is a Ukranian Catholic Church that just happens to have Baptist in the name as opposed to actually being a Baptist Church, right?

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 05-09-2018 02:48 PM

You are correct.

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - rpmendez - 05-09-2018 02:57 PM

Cool, maybe I finally am getting the hang of this, lol.
Thanks!
