RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - rpmendez - 05-20-2018 09:46 AM Got one more for you Alex, sorry, lol How about if an S is added to the word that ends in ST? I found signs that contain these words: Exhausts Best's Thanks in advance! RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 05-20-2018 10:01 AM Those would not count RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - imsunflower - 05-21-2018 07:35 PM would this count? best-preserved RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 05-22-2018 08:58 AM (05-21-2018 07:35 PM)imsunflower Wrote: would this count? best-preserved To keep things simple for our GT rules, that would not count if it is in a sentence. The hyphen makes it a single compound word. I don't want to tumble down the Webster/Oxford rabbit hole of permanent and temporary compound word usage. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - Frump - 05-22-2018 12:44 PM Compound words are two or more words which when combined have a completely different meaning. For example words like ice cream, fireman, or up-to-date are compound words. So, if simple compound words don't count, do compound words like "post office", "breakfast", "northwest" and "southeast" count? I'm pretty confused now. Maybe you simply meant the hyphen makes "best-preserved" a single word which ends with "ed" and I should just avoid confusing English rules regarding compound words? For example words like ice cream, fireman, or up-to-date are compound words. I didn't say that all simple compound words don't count. You are correct that I meant that that specific hyphenated compound word does not count. "best-preserved" would not count because it ends in "ed" Those others you list are fine, since they have a single word that ends in "st". RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - imsunflower - 05-23-2018 03:21 PM Do you have to use the bike you registered with, for all photo's? I would like to change them up for different riding pleasures. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 05-23-2018 03:24 PM From the GT rules page: Photos and Submissions MUST be in the photo (in order of importance): 1) Your rally placard. 2) Whatever the instructions tell you to take a picture of. 3) A significant portion of your bike. a) Any bike, regardless if you own, rent or borrow, is acceptable b) What we want should be clear in the photo. This is the most important thing. c) Some spots might be tough to park right next to the Specific location. So take a picture of your bike and another of the bonus location. A shared landmark in each photo is helpful too RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - scottheinrich - 06-09-2018 01:05 PM Will this count? The parking lot was packed. I was blocking traffic. The sun was on the camera's screen. And I'm dumb. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 06-09-2018 04:53 PM Yes that's a good one RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - rpmendez - 06-14-2018 12:53 PM Does this demonstrate the location ok? I had to park around the corner. The only other alternative would be to show up at 5AM and ride up onto the sidewalk, lol. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 06-15-2018 12:16 PM Yes. That works. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - scottheinrich - 06-16-2018 02:01 PM One Point or Two, or three, if you zoom in tight. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - scottheinrich - 06-16-2018 04:35 PM What about one place with two signs? I am claiming only one point. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - UncleLumpy - 06-18-2018 03:24 PM Hopefully that is visible. I captured 2 historical markers in one stop. 2 questions: 1) Is the way I've demontrated that I rode the bike there is acceptable? 2) There are several repeat words scattered throughout the 2 markers--does this count for 10 points? Thanks! Lumpy P.S. Wow, previewing that...it shows up huge. Hopefully this doesn't break anything on the forum. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 06-21-2018 07:53 AM Scott, you can claim one exact sign per exact location. I would claim one point for each of the locations you posted, since the multiple signs are referencing the same exact location(s). Lumpy, 1. Those photos work for showing the location and your bike/flag. 2. Yes, you can claim multiple words as points, even if they repeat, within a sign/marker. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - JohnF - 07-22-2018 09:00 PM Just when I think I got it...I don"t. Various medical professions (oncologist, radiologist, psychologist), are these considered a chain? In one answer you state one dentist per state, then another post you state as many florist per state as one wants. That gets confusing as to what profession is treated as a "chain" and what is go for all you want! No captures in a month...time to get back at it. Post bump for attention. RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - rpmendez - 07-29-2018 04:15 PM Alex, I am seriously concerned! It's not like you to not to reply to questions so long! I really hope you are ok and just on vacation or something! Either way all our questions will wait! I hope all is well! Rod RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions - xander84 - 07-29-2018 04:42 PM One dentist per state. Multiple of all of other medical professions is OK, more than one per state is OK. I was on vacation, had a blast. Hope people are having fun this summer. |
