I've stayed at Bell's Motor Lodge in Spearfish a couple of times when I'm passing through. I attended a FJR rally there in 2015 and I'm booked to go back again for a FJR / Dual sport rally in 2018. Its a reasonably priced well kept old school motel where you can park your bike outside your door. Scott, the owner operator has been pretty accommodating in the past.

Bells is on the list. I've stayed there several times too.

This will be discussed during the upcoming Moab trip, Dad's Colorado is a four door, with room for Marlene and another person, gear could be stowed in the enclsed trailer. I don't know if 4wd is necessary for the dakal but it might be nice.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Sleddog - 03-15-2017 08:52 AM

Everyone can plan on some kind of chase vehicle being available for stowing gear & carrying extra fuel. Duffel bags should be considered instead of throwing gear loosely into the vehicles.
If Bob & Teresa aren't available the entire trip, we'll work out a solution. But, plan on having someplace to stow your toothbrushWink

You must still be a Harley rider at heart.

Lapchik I think its your turn.

I shouldn't put down the chase vehicle so much. If you watch my YouTube videos on the tsdat, I lost an axle nut and plate and needed the help.

Well then here you go!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've contacted Motels & for warned them of what's happening. It is up to YOU to make your own reservations, I'm not doing it. Rates vary from $59.00 - $125.00 If you double up prices will be cheaper per person, it's up to you.

JC's Stagestop B&B has limited amount of beds. When they're full, she will contact me & we'll work out someplace else to stay. They do have space for about 7 cots, Marlene & I will be using them. It's really a great place to stay so I wouldn't procrastinate.

Tipperary Motel in Buffalo is the only lodging in the area. The closest lodging is all the way back to Belle Fourche.

When making your reservations, tell them you are with the GLMC group.

Your reservations should be made at the following motels for the date listed.

September 9th....Buffalo Ridge Inn, Custer, SD 605-717-7006

Yes

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Abercrombie - 03-15-2017 07:37 PM

Am I assuming correctly that September 11th will be in Buffalo SD not Buffalo WY?

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Sleddog - 03-15-2017 08:01 PM

Yes Buffalo, SD

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Abercrombie - 03-15-2017 09:24 PM

WooooHoooo I'm booked for a double bed room for all 6 nights! Hopefully my friend John is in or I will be looking for a room mate to share expenses. I'm wore out just booking six nights and now the hard part is waiting six months.

Thanks a ton Jack! I know you've already spent many hours getting this set up and I appreciate the hell out of it! I'm pretty sure this will be one of the highlight motorcycle trips of my life. I turn retirement age September 9th and will be retiring as a firefighter on the 7th so allowing me to tag along is one great retirement gift.

Good info. Thanks for the updates. The chase/support vehicle sounds like a welcome luxury. I think Sleddog is very wise not to be making reservations for people.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Farmer - 03-16-2017 09:31 AM

4 down,2 to go

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Iffykid - 03-16-2017 10:04 AM

"We will be starting from Hill City. There is a good place to leave tow rigs at."

"September 9th....Buffalo Ridge Inn, Custer, SD"

Jack is the plan to leave from Custer or Hill City on the morning of the 10th? Trying to figure out travel plans and if I want/need to book Buffalo Ridge Inn on the 9th.

Thanks

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - LSGiant - 03-16-2017 11:58 AM

Everything booked also

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Sleddog - 03-16-2017 02:24 PM

Leaving from Custer

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Farmer - 03-16-2017 04:04 PM

Finally got a hold of the last lodging place,so i am booked in.Total for the six nights will be around $450,not horrible for single occupancy.

Like was said above, can't wait for September to get here.

If any one in the NW Iowa area is looking to share travel expense to and from, I have a regular cab pickup(really bad mpg) that 2 can ride in,haul 2 bikes. Or i have a light open utility trailer that could hold maybe 3 bikes and be towed by about anything,Hopefully something that gets good mpg.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning - Phlatlander - 03-16-2017 08:07 PM

All reservations made but the one in Custer. Will try again tomorrow.

Oops, guess I should have asked if there was room for me before I made reservations?

What you say Jack?
