Old wing question - Cruzin - 05-14-2021 02:04 PM Last fall as I was trying to get my Gold Wing into the trailer for the winter. It refused to start I heard a loud bang which I didn't like, it spun over so many times it actually melted the lead post on the battery and finally sized up. A month ago I pulled it out of the trailer and after some investigation found out that the gas that was in the tank all transferred into the crankcase So I change the oil and filter and try again. It started and moved a few blocks but it had no power. Like a dead cylinder. I decided to look at it again yesterday and all of the fuel is in the crankcase again I have blown up a lot of motorcycles in the last 43 years of riding but have never seen this happen Any ideas RE: Old wing question - Lapchik - 05-14-2021 02:11 PM Float stuck, pump keeps running, pumping gas into cylinder/intake? What year is it? I have Bob's 1985 I'm currently riding, and a 99% complete 1979 1100. You can have just about anything off the 1100 if you need it. RE: Old wing question - Lapchik - 05-14-2021 02:52 PM Correction: It's a 1000 not 1100 RE: Old wing question - ST Rich - 05-19-2021 01:58 PM If I remember correctly the bike has a vacuum fuel shut-off valve. My guess is that it has been bypassing fuel for a while. That in conjunction with a leaking float and you have the root cause.... At least the sludge should be cleaned out inside the motor. RE: Old wing question - Lapchik - 05-19-2021 03:43 PM My 1000 and 1200 do not have a vacuum shut-off. They both had leaking shut-offs though. They leaked to the outside. Does yours have a mechanical fuel pump on the right side cylinder head? [cam driven] If that's leaking, it could go into the valve cover/crankcase. I know the 1000 has that pump, and the 1200 does not as the pump is electric. What year/model is yours Cruzin? |
