Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - paper - 02-19-2014 02:17 PM I've used Photobucket for the Grand Tour photo hosting for a few years and last year was a pain the a** because you can't do a group download of all the photos when making the CD.. I don't have the drive to make my own web page, so this year I was thinking about uploading to "cloud" the photos on Google Drive. Problem is, when downloading it does the same crap, downloading them to your download file on the computer. Once there, you have to pick them out to copy them to CD.. Short of no sharing, does anyone have a simple way to share photos and still send them to CD without spending 5 hours at a computer? Photobucket is great for hosting pics that I want to link to forums, but as far as using it as a public storage device, it sucks.. If I could just copy all pics and send to my CD drive, like I used to be able to do, I'd be much happier. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - xander84 - 02-19-2014 02:47 PM Is it not possible to copy the pictures to a folder on your computer, then from that folder upload them to the "cloud" and also copy them to a CD. Not sure if that is what you're looking to do and I don't claim to be a computer expert. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - paper - 02-19-2014 03:01 PM It copies to the generic "Download" folder and then I have to pick each and every photo out of there individually, where they get lumped in with everything I've downloaded. I'm trying to keep everything as a group from beginning to end so I don't have to fight with anything.. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - xander84 - 02-19-2014 04:15 PM So you can't select the folder your camera is asking to upload to before it starts copying the picture files? You should be able to pick your download folder. If you can't select your download folder, you should be able to sort the folder by date modified (the picture file names are usually a date code as well). After sorting you should be able to highlight the desired or most recent files and move them wherever: CD, folder, cloud, etc. I think I may be just confusing myself now, which seems to happen more often than not. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - paper - 02-19-2014 04:20 PM The download folder is the issue.. I only get the option to download, not where the download is going.. They all go to the generic "Download" folder.. I fought with the download thing last year for hours before giving up and just downloading one at a time. Part of the problem was that I was used to being able to take the entire folder in Photobucket and download it as a whole. This was sorted by name and was perfect for what I was doing.. I asked Photobucket why I can't download entire folders anymore, and the IT guy at Photobucket said he's been asking the same, as the feature was removed to make the whole Photobucket experience more in tune to today's social media needs.. Hence the desire for something different. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - propforward - 02-19-2014 05:38 PM Can't you just empty the download folder just before you make the CD? RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - paper - 02-19-2014 07:18 PM Tried that.. Still had to do everything one at a time, downloading from Photobucket one at a time. When bouncing back and forth, it's easy to double up or skip a file.. Again, I'm after a route that is easy and works like it should. Like photobucket used to work. Once in the download folder, you have to open each picture and then have to save it again in a regular folder. In the download folder you can only grab each jpg one at a time, grabbing it and putting it in another folder YEAH!! I just figured out how to do it with the Google Drive.. I can copy all and download as a complete group.. I wish photobucket would let me do the same.. Oh well, at least it's a place to stick everything until needed. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - propforward - 02-20-2014 09:50 AM I just remembered that smugmug has a free little software thingy. It is designed to allow you to change accounts from one photo hosting place to another, but a positive side effect is that you can use it to download from photobucket (or elsewhere) to a folder you specify on your pooter. Might be worth checking out. As I recall, the software is free, and you do not need a smugmug account to get it. I'll see if I can find it. I used it one time - it failed to transfer all my pics to smugmug, but did a really good job of grabbing them all from phototphucket and putting them on my desktop. I'm pretty sure you can choose which folder on your photophucket account to grab, too. You don't have to download your whole account. Although it sounds like you have a solution. This is where to get that software I was on about, in case you are interested. http://smugglr.smugmug.com/ It really pissed me off when photobucket went from being a well organised, useful, simple tool for storing photos to a glitzy, stupid, not very helpful place to store photos. I tried transitioning to smugmug, but their app is a load of arse, and no use for playing tag games. Grrrrrrr. Now that I have the issue somewhat resolved, at least the ease of downloading, I need to look at the sharing aspect. It's fun to look at other people's GT photos and I like to share mine. I'll have dig into it for a link that's not a pain in the butt to use. I also need to figure out how to label the photos, so that they're labeled by both point value and alphabetical. I tought I'd get the score value in the title to make it easier to separate them by value and make it easier for Mike to score them. If I list them as a number/name I think it'll do what I want.. Need to take the time to play.. 1 Pooter 3 Tennessee Something on that line.. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Bob C - 03-14-2014 08:13 AM It seems as if downloading all the data to a CD is the main problem. Instead of copying all data to a CD, why not just send the photobucket/smugmug, etc link to Mike? Mike can call up the link and start scoring. Saves mailing, printing out pictures, downloading a CD. The club hasn't taken that step in scoring.. I see that Team Strange is doing just that this year, though.. We are not Team Strange.. I do like the thought, but that's Mike's call. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - MDTurley - 03-14-2014 03:13 PM My plan is to upload after each day's ride http://mdturley.smugmug.com/Motorcycles but I'll send a CD unless Mike says different and I'll just say most folks don't scratch the surface of Smugmug... smart coding, fast, and no ads... worth the cost as for the comment above "I tried transitioning to smugmug, but their app is a load of arse, and no use for playing tag games" I'll just say, nonsense! http://mdturley.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Tags/23807289_kxZMKK#!i=1929241538&k=pd4ZcCt RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Lapchik - 03-15-2014 12:19 PM I use facebook. It's free and I don't have any trouble with it. https://www.facebook.com/KorysRides/photos_stream RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - MDTurley - 03-15-2014 12:44 PM I didn't know if all could see a FB album... so redundancy FB will actually work very well for this https://www.facebook.com/mdturley/media_set?set=a.10203103434894834.1073741862.1475274748&type=3 http://mdturley.smugmug.com/Motorcycles RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Lapchik - 03-15-2014 12:50 PM (03-15-2014 12:44 PM)MDTurley Wrote: I didn't know if all could see a FB album... so redundancy All you have to do is set it to public when you create/edit the album. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Shooter - 03-15-2014 01:47 PM To many creepers online (like Lapchik ) for me to post pics to the public. Good old CD, flash drive, SD card, etc. Also I don't like anyone knowing how many I "really" have till the end. For instance in 2012 or perhaps this year? I believe you still have to log into Facebook to see the public album, therefore I won't be able to see your photos. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - paper - 03-17-2014 09:08 AM Correct. I won't see Kory's pics as I'm not on Fartbook. My point of the topic was to find an easy way to download off a hosting site. Photobucket used to be simple when it could be done in bulk, still as I had it sorted. That's no longer the case. I'm not on Facebook but I've found a way to store, sort, and download in bulk with google. They're not out for the public, which isn't a big deal. I just wanted a central storeage area that was accessible from anywhere. Since I'm a gmail user, it works for me. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Lapchik - 03-17-2014 10:10 AM I logged out of facebook and tried my links, you can still see the public stuff on my Kory's Rides page without being signed in to facebook, so you guys can still see my photos without a fb account. RE: Photo Hosting for the Grand Tour - Frump - 03-17-2014 11:53 AM Your right Cory. I only log into FB to setup customer pages there, otherwise I would have nothing to do with them. I generally won't even visit a page once I see its hosted on Facebook - I don't want to join the Collective. Can you break your photos into albums on FB? When I went to your page, everything was globed together. I still think the sites such as Google Photos/Picasa, Google Drive, Smugmug and Flickr are easier to use and navigate for our purposes. I missed that Team Strange wasn't using CD or Polaroids. That is interesting. I would like to know how well that works for them at the end of the year. |
