Rider Number - propforward - 05-12-2014 03:20 PM How do you get a GLMC rider number? I sent in a membership application, and even sent money. I'm like that. I got a shirt through the mail, so that's cool. Do you get a number issued at the first event you actually enter, or something? Not that it matters, I just have this urge to BELONG. Not for me that "stand-out-from-the-crowd" mentality, no siree. I like to just blend in, all quiet like, and not get in the way - usually hiding by the PIE!, so that it is within easy reach. RE: Rider Number - xander84 - 05-12-2014 03:36 PM You got a shirt? I signed up a few months ago, but never got a shirt. Are you still on for the Bonzai? It will be my first rally, not counting the Icycle. RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-12-2014 03:42 PM I did get a shirt. I'm pretty sure it was a general GLMC shirt, and nothing to do with any rallies. I often don't pay close enough attention, which can be why things like rider numbers slip by me. I am still on for the Bonzai. There was a period of uncertainty where it looked like I would have to work that weekend, but that has swung back in my favour, at least for now. It's my first road rally as well. I got told by paper to tag onto an experienced rider. Bah! The very idea. I shall either suck, or not suck, and shan't worry either way. RE: Rider Number - Lapchik - 05-12-2014 03:56 PM You get a number assigned when you enter any rally. RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-12-2014 04:02 PM Right you are! Thank you sir. All the more reason to actually show up. RE: Rider Number - Lapchik - 05-12-2014 04:22 PM Just don't get too carried away with your number, it may change if you do well enough at the end of the year. http://www.glmc.org/rider_of_the_year.php Get to fly the #1 Grand Tour flag the next year if you win. RE: Rider Number - nels - 05-13-2014 06:32 AM you have one now check the rider list for the Bonzai Nels RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-13-2014 07:55 AM (05-12-2014 04:22 PM)Lapchik Wrote: Get to fly the #1 Grand Tour flag the next year if you win. Well, it's good to have aspirations, but I try and work within the bounds of reality as well. I've been chatting a bit with GSAnderson and a few others. I will gladly take any hints and tips, but I'm not afraid to just get out there and give it a go either. I should be there reasonably early on Saturday. (05-13-2014 06:32 AM)nels Wrote: you have one now Splendid stuff! Thank you. I shall carry this number with pride, which is actually true. I have started pinning my grand tour flags (all one of them) on my garage wall for decoration, next to my trashed gloves. I don't know why I am pinning those up, but there it is. He cannot be trusted around normal folk and will lead you astray. Evil evil man. I'll be around early Saturday and can tell you everything you need to know... unless you ride an 800 XC. Then you're on your own. Careful on listening to this guy too . . .he went all the way to Duluth to change out a tire first thing on the Bonzai last year. . . .then ran how many miles? 7XX something? RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-13-2014 04:45 PM I have learned, over the years, that the person who's advice I most need to ignore, is my own. Crazy but true. Oh, how many times have I said "That should be OK" only to end up floating down crap creek with a leaky dinghy and no paddle? All too often. I wouldn't have it any other way. RE: Rider Number - stryg8r - 05-14-2014 10:34 AM You'll fit right in with the rest of us then. RE: Rider Number - MikeH - 05-15-2014 11:37 PM The best part of these rallies is getting back to the finish and sharing stories of your epic ride or how you screwed the pooch. With the latter being a much more entertaining story. Also a very important tip that must be brought up before the rally, don't ever, ever, EVER, challenge Nels to a drinking contest! RE: Rider Number - MikeH - 05-16-2014 06:13 AM And be sure to tell Mary you don't want anymore beer, seemed like whenever I got low she'd have a new one on standby. RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-16-2014 09:24 AM I'm not allowed to have beer any more, on account of the fact that it shrinks my riding gear. RE: Rider Number - Lapchik - 05-16-2014 04:00 PM And don't ever ever share a room with shooter. The snoring . . .it still haunts my nightmares. Prop, with your permission I may have to steal...uh...borrow that line! Priceless! RE: Rider Number - propforward - 05-20-2014 04:57 PM You should probably take my advice on that. |
