Rider Number - propforward - 05-12-2014 03:20 PM
How do you get a GLMC rider number? I sent in a membership application, and even sent money. I'm like that.
I got a shirt through the mail, so that's cool.
Do you get a number issued at the first event you actually enter, or something?
Not that it matters, I just have this urge to BELONG. Not for me that "stand-out-from-the-crowd" mentality, no siree. I like to just blend in, all quiet like, and not get in the way - usually hiding by the PIE!, so that it is within easy reach.

I signed up a few months ago, but never got a shirt.
Are you still on for the Bonzai?
It will be my first rally, not counting the Icycle.

I did get a shirt. I'm pretty sure it was a general GLMC shirt, and nothing to do with any rallies. I often don't pay close enough attention, which can be why things like rider numbers slip by me.
I am still on for the Bonzai. There was a period of uncertainty where it looked like I would have to work that weekend, but that has swung back in my favour, at least for now.
It's my first road rally as well. I got told by paper to tag onto an experienced rider. Bah! The very idea. I shall either suck, or not suck, and shan't worry either way.

You get a number assigned when you enter any rally.

not sure how early you'll show up Saturday but there will be plenty of riders around that can give you a quick overview of the basics of this rally stuff too if ya like.

I shall carry this number with pride, which is actually true. I have started pinning my grand tour flags (all one of them) on my garage wall for decoration, next to my trashed gloves. I don't know why I am pinning those up, but there it is.

Do not listen to this man. He cannot be trusted around normal folk and will lead you astray. Evil evil man. I'll be around early Saturday and can tell you everything you need to know... unless you ride an 800 XC. Then you're on your own.

Careful on listening to this guy too . . .he went all the way to Duluth to change out a tire first thing on the Bonzai last year. . . .then ran how many miles? 7XX something?

Crazy but true. Oh, how many times have I said "That should be OK" only to end up floating down crap creek with a leaky dinghy and no paddle?
All too often.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

The best part of these rallies is getting back to the finish and sharing stories of your epic ride or how you screwed the pooch. With the latter being a much more entertaining story.
Also a very important tip that must be brought up before the rally, don't ever, ever, EVER, challenge Nels to a drinking contest!
