DS ADV Rally - Lapchik - 06-03-2014 09:30 PM

Doesn't seem to be much talk about it, so I thought I would start the thread.

I'll be down there to camp Friday evening. Going to pack up the bike and ride down at noon Friday from NW Iowa. Don't plan to be on more than 10 miles of paved roads the whole way down.

Are there any grocery stores nearby? I don't want to have to pack a cooler on my small bike too if I don't have to.

RE: DS ADV Rally - Shooter - 06-04-2014 08:11 AM

okay...here is what I have.

There is a Motel 3 miles from my house for those that do not want to camp. The Underwood Motel...(712) 566-2727. I can not get group rates or group reservations. It's a Mom and Pop Motel so rates should be good.

There is also a gas station/truck stop next door to the Motel that has most things you would need. My wife and I will also be making some trips to Council Bluffs on Friday if anyone forgot something or wants to pack light to get here.

I have most of the afternoon ride ready to go!!!!! It will be everything from gravel to...is this really a road/goat trail? Should be challenging for experts and novices.

Brion and I have been slow on posting info but trust me it will be a fun weekend, like you have never experienced at a GLMC event.

We have coolers, grills, and everything else you would need. Just bring your smiling face and bike.

RE: DS ADV Rally - Lapchik - 06-04-2014 04:51 PM

Mine is more of a smirking face, but I've been looking forward to this since it was announced as an event.

RE: DS ADV Rally - LSGiant - 06-04-2014 09:19 PM

Joane and I will be there we are bringing the RV. So you can always pitch your tent in the trailer. Looking forward to the first Rally of this kind ever.

I expect to see that Key Fob Kory.

RE: DS ADV Rally - Lapchik - 06-04-2014 10:39 PM

Well of course Jeff

So if the WR isn't done by then my back-up DS, the Intruder, should work? Big Grin

It better not. I expect this to be a real dual sport route not one of those poser rides.

RE: DS ADV Rally - Frump - 06-05-2014 08:53 AM

Intruder... from the web page "Street only bikes not will allowed unless you have received permission from Rally Master". You might be able to do phase 1 if the weather is good, its miniature road rally format, but you have to get permission from Shooter to do phase 2 (afternoon).

RE: DS ADV Rally - Shooter - 06-05-2014 03:50 PM

I will NOT allow the intruder. Sad

Not that I don't want to see you ride it but I'm 100% sure that it will not go to at least 3-4 bonuses in the afternoon. Well it may go but it would definitely not look as good as when it started. This is going to be a true dual sport rally. I will post a few pics this weekend if I can get out and show you what can be expected.

The afternoon is gonna be REALLY tough. Smile With lots of beverages and Advil following. Big Grin

RE: DS ADV Rally - Lapchik - 06-05-2014 04:18 PM

Glad I live nearby, I can go back to the ones I don't get during the rally.

RE: DS ADV Rally - ST Rich - 06-05-2014 08:37 PM

Oh RallyMasters.....
Can I use a different dualsport for the morning and afternoon routes?
Inquiring minds want to know Smile

You must ride the same bike on both sections to qualify for a "total" score.

If you want to ride two bikes you will have split scores and no overall which would kill your ROTY points. The intent is to ride the same bike on both courses. Besides I want to see the Huskie ride both courses... the KLR has to much good Karma from the BBE last year. Smile

3 weeks to go!!!!!!!!

RE: DS ADV Rally - LSGiant - 06-06-2014 02:39 PM

As I was promoting this event on the ADV board there has been an inquiry as to if there will pie served at some point in the event.
Rally Master what say you ?

RE: DS ADV Rally - ST Rich - 06-07-2014 06:07 PM

Humpf!!!!!!!
Ok then, one more little question..... what are the six classes?
TIA
Rich

GLMC Rally Rules #10?

Honestly, this should be addressed immediately in any event, in my opinion.

PIE! - it's - well - important.

RE: DS ADV Rally - Frump - 06-09-2014 03:19 PM

We "might" provide pie to people who attempt both phases on the same bike, so there.

Someone asked me if they should bring a 125 or a 250... I would recommend a 250 but to be honest I have no idea what Shooter is actually planning in phase 2. Phase 1 (my phase, the morning phase) will be a miniature road rally with dirt, gravel roads and maybe a goat path, or dike, or two. The rules may evolve slightly as we get closer, this is our first DS Adv rally. There "might" be some advantage in the morning track to having a larger bike, but if the weather sucks on Saturday or even a day or two before, big bikes will be at a disadvantage. This is why we decided to have 2 classes (<650 CC and 650+ CCs). From the sound of it, the possible size advantage in the morning might turn into a disadvantage by afternoon.

We plan to hand out awards for six different places. 1st and 2nd place in Phase #1 (morning phase), 1st and 2nd place in Phase #2 (afternoon phase) and 1st and 2nd place in Overall (combined points from both phases). We will NOT be using odometer efficiency for a tie breakers. We "may" use paper, scissors, and rocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock-paper-scissors) or a similar scientific method to resolve any ties.

If you can, please read what we have on the event page: http://www.glmc.org/dsadventure.php

RE: DS ADV Rally - Shooter - 06-09-2014 03:42 PM

for the afternoon course I don't see anyone going over 50mph for long periods. Lots of hills and 25mph corners. I will side with Brion on that a smaller biker might do you better in the afternoon. Not a lot of miles but a very challenging course physically. I have driven it all on my 650 KLR but not real fast....lol

If it means more entrants than pie will be served!!!!! Smile
