rally question

rally question
Would this be legal to carry during a rally? It's DOT approved and would be secured in my saddle bag.

Obviously this is for emergency purposes only. Not a great aux. fuel choice, but better than pushing. Smile

A friend showed it to me and got me thinking after I came into Phillip, WI on vapor during The Bonzai Rally.

RE: rally question
In a saddlebag is not securely fastened. It is not grounded etc.

Typically not allowed

IMHO

It's not a competition, It's a demonstration. "Rowan"

RE: rally question
Nope, that little can won't work. Better pay me to build you a hitch mount system with that tank I sold you.

What rally do they search a saddlebag for emergency fuel?
Were not talking fuel cell here. Its not tied into the bikes fuel system.
Just wondering

Probably will not search his bike, he can choose to follow the rules or not, just like speeding etc.
I have an MSR bottle, I do not take it with on rallies. I have a PVC can like that. I keep my weed eater gas in it. If it warms up the gas expands and it will vent, not what I want in my saddle bag. We rented an HD Electroglide in Florida a few years back. The one saddle bag got warm enough to melt the plastic grocery store bag we had in the saddle bag. Chad only has pipes on one side ??

RE: rally question
You rented an Electra-glide and still bought a Concourse? Whaaaaaat? lol

My question was pure conversational, I have a fuel cell i'm working on. I agree I don't think I would store fuel in my saddle bag. Besides saddle bags are for booze and smokes. Smile

I do have dual pipes, 2 into 1 into 2, but have never had my saddle bags get that hot. Not even in Utah last year when temps were 115 degrees.

The truth is I'm hoping to retire my Harley after this year and purchase a.....wait for it.........BMW or Concourse (that kinda hurt to say....lol).

Harleys being air cooled make my butt VERY hot on long ride days in the middle of the summer and not great mpg compared to Jap/german bikes.

I will keep my Harley for vacations with Blinky and cruising with Haley.

Besides my Harley won't do wheelies. Wink

That's what most everyone said on the concours forum.

Video RE: rally question
Code:
Syntax:
[video=youtube]embed URL[/video]

Example:
[video=youtube]http://youtu.be/RB13WLixnjg[/video]

In Youtube click on "Share" and the "Share This Video" link below. Cut/Paste in that URL.

Found how-to easy by Googling "embedding youtube videos in mybb". It's probably on the help page too, but I'm lazy.

I'll cross post this somewhere, but not in Announcements area.

RE: rally question
I used to carry a Sea Foam can for emergency gasoline, back when they had a metal cap and a good gasket. We are not the IBA, but DO want our riders to be safe. I guess I'd leave it at that. Do what you have to do,but be safe about it. I remember being at a ButtLite check point years ago, and there were a lot of bikes that had fuel running out of them, because they had just filled before they checked in, thats not real safe either. If a plastic can is safe enough for people to transport in their car trunk, I would think it would be safe in a saddle bad opposite the mufflers, you know the limits, and your bike's heat distribution.

I would agree it is not tied into the system,so not really a fuel cell, does not add to cruise range, or convenience of filling larger amounts of fuel. This is an emergency fuel supply, not like to be used........except in an emergency.

Rider's disgression there, some of the fuel cells I have seen do not look as safe as that container in a saddle bag.

A fuel cell can be switched to while riding, which adds in the saddle time, in today's credit card 24 hour pumps, fuel cells are not as valuable as they once were.
