I know it's the weekend before the Bonzai. I also know it's kinda close to the same riding territory as the Bonzai.

I'm really thinking about going even though I ride a noisy Harley and I don't drink Kool-Aid. That part of WI is so appealling to me and I would like to tour it again not in hurry up rally mode.

I think that might be a 1200 Sportster weekend so I can throw the bike into the alphabet road corners. I am willing to ride that bike a little harder than I am my Electraglide.

I might even make it my Ironhead rally debut. My kid will probably be at his moms that weekend. I think it would be funny to plop a '74 Ironhead Sportster in the middle of a couple hundered BMW's

I've gone the last couple years, but I've decided to head south this year and go to the IL Guzzi Rally, held that same weekend.

It's a fun rally, and part of the fun is the fact that its fairly small at just a couple hundred people. Excellent roads in every direction, and a great location to go wander on Saturday and get Grand Tour towns.

I usually camped down on the river berm, there's always plenty of campfires to share all over the park. And nobody will have an issue with you being on something non-BMW. I've taken the KLR over there the last couple years so I can wander the gravel roads while getting GT towns. Smile

I went last year, and it was a great time. This is one of my favourite rallies, the other being the Wisconsin Moto Guzzi owners rally.

I don't know for sure if I am going this year, because there is an event in Kansas City that I have been invited to on the same weekend. But I wouldn't mind going to this rally at all - it's in a great area and is a lot of fun.

Last year when I went, we were joined at our campfire by a Harley Dude. There was a Harley rally or something nearby, and a couple of them came over to look at bikes and shoot the breeze for a bit, which was very cool.

In short, you need not worry about what bike you ride. Last year I went on my Triumph Tiger, and consequently had the best bike at the rally, obviously. Big Grin

If you want to ride the roads. The Concours group is meeting there on the weekend of July 11th. I promise we are at least as inviting or more than the BMW crowd. Much smaller group I think we had 20 riders last year. But we do offer the excellent ride sheets.

It's not a competition, It's a demonstration. "Rowan"

I put that on my calender also. I'm mostly going to get grand tour towns and the BMW rally gives me someplace to camp at night.

That's good to know. I might barge in on you and drink all your beer.

I know its off topic, but "shoot the breeze for a bit" with a couple Harley guys at a BMW rally is COMPLETELY different then "shoot the Breeze for a bit" with some Harley guys at GLMC rally, hehe.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm working on getting the flyers done for the 11th Annual BSR Campout near Pickstown, SD. Big change this year we plan to do some campfire cooking at Saturday night instead of going to the Fort Randall Casino for dinner (evening). Brats, beans, chips and hot coffee are on the current iteration of the menu. Lunch Saturday will be about noon in Niobrara, probably at the Riverside Cafe (formerly the Flyway Cafe). Its going to happen on Saturday-Sunday of Mother's Day weekend, May 10-11th. Everyone's invited regardless of what you ride, but folks bearing cigars, "beverages", firewood, or their Mom might get kind extra bonus points. I'm thinking about going a day early to prepare and bum about. I'll post the final details and a flyer soon. Cost: ~cheap.

Can I still drink the beer?

It refered to a "certain" Harley riding GLMC rider from Omaha... not Council Bluffs. hehe.

Sure, but I would recommend not doing it during the riding portion of rally. Water and other beverages will help you hydrate better. Smile

I posted this before I knew the date of the offroad poker run & hare scramble. I will be going to South Shore this weekend, not WI. I'll have to wait until some other opportunity comes up to goto SW Wisconsin. The Concours ride later in summer sounds fun. Nothing like getting lapped by a bunch of Kawasaki's to make me re evaluate my choice in motorcycles.

The week after the Bonzai is the MN BMW Rally at Money Creek, MN.. Also a good time, and basically the same area, being 25 miles SW of LaCrosse.
