RE: Road Rally Rules Changes

Overall it is fun to be with friends and family but there were times during the ride that you would rather be alone. Bickering, disagreeing, and complaining come along with riding as a team. I am sure we would be much faster solo but we didn't enter the rally with winning in mind, we were joking about coming in last the entire time. We came to the rally for something fun to do. Well said. I think the only reason my brother and I didn't bicker is neither of us knew what the hell we were doing and there was only two of us. Still some of the most vivid memories of rallying for me. I follow the John Coons method, I only compete with myself, I don't care about people in teams, going 100mph, or using supercomputers to solve routes. Find a route, ride my route, hopefully have something memorable happen, share those memories. And most importantly, don't get into any type of contest involving beer with Nels! I like this method. Much more relaxing and fun. [/quote] Somehow I just can not use relaxing, fun, and rally in the same sentence or practice. Maybe when I get older ........ Thank you everyone for being willing to give the new category a try. It's not a competition, It's a demonstration. RE: Road Rally Rules Changes
Definitely give it a try see what happens, if we find it doesn't work things can change. I was just worried the new group we had last year at the bonzai would have been offended and that isn't the case.
I wouldn't consider my method relaxing or fun (at the moment). I can get argumentative with myself. Most of the time I'm yelling at people driving like idiots and my Zumo. Mike GLMC #371 TeamStrange #744 IBA #475 |

I am not offended at all and I am sure the others are like minded. We actually didn't expect to place really and when we did we admittedly felt a bit bad for the other first timers that had the opportunity to place taken away. Like I said, my first post in this thread was a quip, I was just joking around and I hope that it was taken in that tone. I know that there are going to be two novices that are coming with us this year. One will be riding solo which is great, I am not sure if the other is prepared to run solo or wants to run solo. So at this moment I would like to get signed up but I can't say for sure if I will be riding solo and may not know until the day before. Is it ok for a bunch of us to sign up as solo and then if a few of us want to run in teams make the change the day before? If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen. |

RE: Road Rally Rules Changes
I was angry [at people I usually just shake my head at], rode very aggressive, thought paranoid my first few road rallies. It's no fun that way. If you just slow down and take it easy it's much more fun. Even if you do call Frump to tell him Ken got pulled over on his bike and eat a candy bar on the shore of Storm Lake, then show up 2 minutes too late for a shooting bonus. It's just a better experience then being super competitive the whole time.

I guess you didn't read my post then, we were concerned about the other rallyers. We weren't in a position to do something about it but I hope you don't hold a grudge against us, I appreciate you for bringing the the Bonzai to my attention over on advrider and hope to rally with you again. If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen. |

I would have made it too if it weren't for so many roads in Quimby being closed.

Well, the matter is over now. Sure would be nice if the GLMC management would follow up with some of the other rookies from last year though, see if any are coming back.

You didn't. I had a great time, I already paid up to do it again. I'm just concerned for some of the other rookies is all. :thumb
There was a bit of disappointment after the banquet last year, I think the club has been smart in addressing it with a rule change. I have no ill will / grudges / discontent anywhere regarding this, though that might not be obvious from my posts. It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. |

RE: Road Rally Rules Changes
The great thing about this club is the people....
We run into "issues" sometimes....we address them and find a solution and if doesn't work we look at it again. Kinda sucks when it doesn't work and we wait a year to make changes but that's the fair way to do it. Back to the people.....we all tease and joke but really nobody cares if they win, lose, or are dumb enough to lose track of time for a shooting bonus. It's all about the fun factor As a RM and good friend I did take a little pleasure in holding up my phone with the time on it and say nope. Chad "Shooter" Churchill GLMC #447 |
