XJ650RJ for sale
Deal fell through that I had tried to make with this bike earlier, so I am re-posting.
I am selling my 1982 Yamaha Seca XJ650RJ. I have come to terms with the fact that I don't have enough time to spend restoring and riding it. It takes up space, which I don't have a lot of either. It doesn't really need restoring, it's just that I bought it from the original owner with 2200 miles on it, and it was my first bike. I care about keeping it in good shape. I wanted to get it back to showroom quality, but that isn't going to happen with my growing family and many other vehicles requiring more immediate attention. I was the second and fifth owner. I sold the bike in 2010 so I could finance luggage for my Kawasaki Versys. I asked on facebook in 2014 if anyone had seen a bike like it, and like some sort of daydream miracle, it was still in my hometown. I went and looked at the bike, and there were only 780 more miles on it, and it was unmolested. Just as I had left it. The two guys who owned it after I sold it were both actually old friends of my father. I bought it back and fixed what had been lacking maintenance while it was away. It got some basic tune up work and I fixed some of the things that had dry rotted [tires, fuel lines, vacuum lines]. I rode it, but not nearly as much as I thought I would have. I rode it three times last year, and about ten times the year before that. This year it has only been out once for a tune up ride, and once for a little cruise around the neighborhood. I think it is time for the bike to have a new home, where it will be appreciated and ridden. Comes with all factory parts I took off [center stand, etc] and a Haynes repair manual. I do not have the factory exhaust. Mileage is 17,659 and counting, as I do plan on riding it a little before it goes away. What has been done: New fuel lines and filter May 2015 Has a Dynojet jet kit in it, 118 main jets, adjustable needles. Currently tuned for the exhaust that is installed [4-1 header and glasspack muffler], which is loud. Carbs can be adjusted easily for a different muffler or factory exhaust. A MAC exhaust can will bolt right up to this header. Tuned for 91 octane gas with no ethanol, but it runs fine with anything 87 or higher. Avoid ethanol blend gas, it makes it run poorly. Repainted header and muffler with high temp paint, then did fiberglass heat wrap July 2015 K&N air filter serviced August 2015 New oil and filter August 2015 New tires August 2015 less than 500 miles on them [had same kind of tires on it before, lasted about 9500 miles] New battery and battery retaining strap May 2014 New spark plugs August 2015 New footpeg rubber driver and passenger 2009 New seat cover June 2015 [still have factory cover and strap, was hoping to find a way to copy it for restoration] New fork seals, fluid, and dust covers May 2016 Bar end weights and foam grip covers May 2015 Replaced OEM fuse holders with aftermarket inline fuse holders May 2007 [factory fuse holders on these bikes always fell apart] Rear end fluid changed May 2015 New slotted front brake rotors and pads November 2015 New rear brake shoes, drum resurfaced May 2015 Right side switches and housing replaced August 2015 Tank is rust free inside, always has been. Has not been cleaned or coated. You need to keep the tank full when storing it to keep the rust away. One mirror is the Yamaha OEM mirror, the other is an EMGO replacement. Very hard to tell unless you look really close. I was adjusting the missing OEM mirror while riding, and it popped off the stem and fell on the road and shattered. Hence the EMGO replacement. Spitfire windshield installed May 2007 New Yamaha OEM replacement fuel petcock May 2007, new internal rubber parts August 2015 [new rubber parts will withstand ethanol gas if you have to use it, but the bike is tuned for 91 octane with no ethanol] Rear fender is still in one piece which is rare for this bike because it was usually cut down for looks. Under seat storage has a few spare parts, and basic tool kit. New clutch and throttle cables May 2007 Does not come with RAM ball mount or Garmin GPS cable as shown in the pictures. Very little in the way of damage. Just a couple scuffs and scratches as shown in the pictures. Only bad ones are: 1. Right rear of seat cowl, through paint [old luggage rack rubbed it] 2. Top front of tank, through some of the clearcoat [tank bag straps beat on tank during Sturgis trip in 2007] 3. Front fender, just ground in dirt will probably come out with cleaner wax [from old under headlight roll bag rubbing fender] Oil filter cover bolt replaced May 2007, original owner had stripped the head off the bolt of the original. Key fits in all locks: ignition, gas cap, seat lock, and chain lock [under the left side cover, used to lock the bike to light poles and things] Spare keys can be obtained through most Yamaha dealerships. It has a code on the key which they send in and have a new key laser cut. Clean and clear title in hand and ready to sign over. Delivery or meet you half way may be possible for the right deal. Located in Sioux City, IA. If you are going to part it out for another XJ project, or chop it up and make it into some sort of chopper, cafe racer, or rat bike, don't even think about it. It's too nice for that. $1850 obo Pictures here: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/19...j.1153658/ http://www.youtube.com/korysrides |
