RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Barring unseen circumstances I will be there. I have a drz400s and a Honda Africa Twin. Im an intermediate rider. Which would be better? I dont want to slab 1100 miles to point A so whatever i bring will be in the of my pickup.

Life is short. Lets ride!

No need to waver, ride the XR650L, you'll be happy(ier) you did.

I asked the same question about riding my Tenere or my XR650L and here was Jack's "Sleddog's" answer to me so I will be riding the XR650L.

LOL, Jack has you listed as riding your KTM690. Are you bringing a big bike or talking smack?

To tell you the truth, I think unless it's muddy I would be very happy on my Tenere. I rode a couple hundred miles of trails South of Deadwood last weekend on the XR 650L and I think the Tenere would have been fine on most everything we rode but I would've had to ride a lot slower. I'll ride the 650 this September and if everything goes fine I will consider riding the Tenere next June when I ride the DakAL with a Yamaha FJR group doing a combination DakAL Dual sport / FJR rally.

I am just talking Smack. My choices are the 690 or my Connie. My 690 with tools, tubes, air compressor and fuel tips the scale at 400 lbs. I will still need to add clothes and supplies to live for a week.

you make a good point giant. If I decide on the AT Ill need to change tires and figure out some panniers. On the other hand the drz is red to go! I do love that Africa Twin tho!

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Well......after all of my planning, Ive been informed that seem to have forgotten about my nephew's wedding that have to go to (or be killed). So, im going to meet up with you all in Alladdin. Since the last day is kinda short, I'll try to make up the first day then and end up back in Alladdin. Is that possible? It wont bother me if its a long day.

Life is short. Lets ride!

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Is anyone planning on staying the night at the Buffalo Ridge Inn on the 15th when we return back to the starting point in Custer? Since it was a short day from Hot Springs to Custer I figured everyone might be packing up and pulling out. If everyone is planning on staying the night of the 15th for one last evening, I would also stay.

Sounds good. I will see what my room mates intentions are. If Owens wants to spend the night in Custer than I'm also in. If he wants to hit the road, I might just head a few miles South to the Broken Arrow Campground and set up a tent.

Well thanks for the heads up and saving me from my screw up LSGiant. I have the final night booked at the Buffalo Ridge Inn on the 15th.

I don't know how I could be more excited, 17 more work days until retirement and less than two months until this epic ride with lots of new friends.

Dang this reminds me I bought a new Montana. I suppose I should learn how to turn it on and load tracks. I should also get my big Acerbis tank mounted on and figure out how to load my bike. This ride is coming up fast.
