So you can scratch me from the "IN" list.

Was looking forward to riding with you.

Same here. It looks like we like to do the same kinds of long DS rides. So hopefully there will be future opportunities.

I ran into a guy at a local meetup, Roger?/KLR, who went on the big CDR loop with you. That sounded like a blast.

If you're ever looking for someone to tag along give me a shout. I've got the day off!

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I've updated the "IN" list in the 1st post. If you're still planning to attend you don't need to do anything. If you're out, please let me know. If you're out & have made reservations you will probably need to cancel soon or you'll be charged.

STRich & I will each be leading a group. Ideally, 5 to a group is easily managed. If someone familiar with following tracks would be willing to lead a group, let me know.

Are there any vegetarians in the group??

It's getting close Wink

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I sort of goofed up and forgot to book the last night of return ( Friday September 15th ) back at Buffalo Ridge Inn in Custer. When I booked the Buffalo Ridge Inn six weeks ago, all they had left was a two bedroom suite with three beds. If anyone is looking for an open bed on the return night to Custer, let me know and we can set you up with the remaining empty bed. The suite was $169.00 so 1/3 would cost you about $56.00.

Well, the Dakota Adventure Loop "DakAL" weapon is just about ready for launch in ten days. Two years ago I was looking for a good used dirt bike to get more dirt experience to make me more competent off road with the Tenere. After striking out finding a good used bike I gave in and bought a 15 Honda XR650L. The plan was to ride it for a couple of years, get some experience and sell it. But then I fell in love with riding dirt and this old school enduro that Honda hasn't changed since it's 1993 introduction. Last year I heard about the DakAL 900 mile loop from a good friend in Spearfish. It was then that I decided to build the old school XR6550L in to a light adventure bike. I'm hoping I have a good setup and I think the Big Red Pig and I make a good match.

I've never put so much work and expense into building a bike. The mods to the Big Red Pig include Acerbis 5.8 gallon tank, Acerbis hand guards, Dunlop D606 tires with heavy duty tubes, Double take enduro mirrors, Handle bar risers, Garmin Montana 680, Engine case savers, Skid plate, Precision Motorcycle racks side and rear luggage racks, Giant Loop Great Basin bag, new tail light and license plate mount, Dave's carburetor mod, Air box mod with Uni Filter, Smog delete, 14 tooth front sprocket, and a new tool bag and possibly a tank bag will go on tomorrow.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Ill be leaving my pickup at the stage stop since Ill be running a day late.
Jack- Do you think its possible to do the last days ride (55 miles) and the first days ride (118 miles) all in one day?

Nice work on the bike build Kevin! Im sure you'll have a blast on that thang!! I started this dual sport thing a few years ago with the "little red pig". I used it for 2 seasons and decided I was hooked on this DS stuff but needed a few more ponies. The drz was a nice transition. Its setup very similar to your bike.

Life is short. Lets ride!

You should be okay. If it gets to be too long of a day you could jump on the pavement.
