RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Will anyone be running communications in their helmets on this ride? I have an extra Sena SMH10 laying around but I would have to get one mounted in my off road helmet.

That's not compatible with with bluetooth, right? I probably shouldn't bring any more technology. Just figuring out how to load the maps and turn on my new Montana might be more than I'm able to figure out. Big Grin

That's why I use the Rugged Radios.....cornstalks don't hamper the range!!

We started using them when riding in Mexico. Used them on the CDR this summer too. Excellent radios & good range.

Jack,

Do you know what frequencies you are on? I have a 2 watt Motorola that is on a mix of FRS and GMRS channels.

Also, are we packing the french presses? or just drinking the local blend in the morning.

This is the system I have.

Of course we'll take the press. We do have a chaser vehicle.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I have a question for Jack or those that have experience in this type of ride. What should I plan for or expect for mid day meals while out on the bike. I was originally thinking of just having Snacks or a Cliff bar or energy bar along to keep me going through the day. Am I thinking right or will we be stopping for for a meal where I should be bringing along a camp stove with a back pack meal or some kind of prepared meal?

I'm all ears for any type of advice since I've never participated in a off road ride anything like this before.

Our in-list seems to have shrunk a bit. C Zulu should be a go. We are sharing a room in Hot Springs unless something has changed. Still a couple more ?? on the list tho.
Good question Abercrombi. Im also curious about meals also.

Life is short. Lets ride!

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Midday is up to the group if they want to stop & eat a sit down meal. Most often some kind of snack along the trail is enough. The chase truck won't be following our exact route so plan on eating out of your tank bag. Breakfast & dinner are in local restaurants.

Yes, the list is dwindling. The only one I haven't heard back from is BobC.

We will be leaving from Custer. Vehicle parking will be 6 miles west of there.
Unloading & parking Saturday afternoon would be best.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
With the rising price of gasoline,I have decided to just ride the KLR out and back instead of the V10 Superduty Ford. (11 to 12 mpg)

Doing this will save me approximately $170 in fuel costs.I decided that money might as well go into an extra motel or 2 and a few more days of riding.

Leaving Friday, leisurely pace and will spend the night somewhere beyond half way, then on to Custer Sat. morning.

Thinking of doing a lot of the travel in Nebraska.

This trip is going to be so much fun.

Enjoy the ride! I retire from the Fargo Fire Department after my 24 hour shift today, retirement party tomorrow night, and Saturday morning I'll be heading out with the XR650L in the back of the pickup for the drive to Custer.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I'd like to have dinner Saturday evening with everyone. We can decide on a place when you unload your bikes at Schleman's. (N43.73876 W103.71925) Or, about 6 miles west of Custer you'll go past Comanche Campground on your left. You will go down a shallow hill with a curve to the right then left. There will be a long driveway on the North (right)

Everyone should be unloaded by 5:00 ish.
