RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I am running the GoldenTyre 90/100 Fatty 4 ply on the front and a Motoz HT on the rear. I plan to run this in Moab in April, so I can have a better report then. If things are dry, I would think almost any tire will work OK. If we get rain and it gets muddy, all bets are off LOL!!!!
It was great to chat with you Bill, looking forward to the ride.

Thanks for all the recommendations.
I did go thru 3 sets last year. For the last ride I tried the Mitas full knobby (E10?). Based in the price and what others said about Mitas tires I was hoping to get 6k miles. But I have about 2500 now and would not take it on another 2k mile trip. I will use it for a couple of months of local riding and then probably put the MT21 on for a trip out west.

But it will be trashed by the end of the trip and that's when I will probably put a more pavement worthy tire on.

2768 miles out of my MT21 rear. I had big trip coming so I took it off but I only would have maybe got another 1000 miles at the most

All I can say is

WOW!!

I couldn't even get that many miles out of one of them on my old XT 350 Big Grin

I'll be putting a new one of these on before we leave, PIRELLI XCMH.

There similar to the MT-21 with a more aggressive tread, worked well in Moab, play in the sand good. The WR should have it down to street only by the end of the trip Big Grin

Shooter, you can camp if you want. There's usually frost on the seats in September.

I agree with Cruzin. That was some funny shit!

Good job KorySmile

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I think I've got everything finalized for the route.

Day 1 Starting from west of Custer & heading north to Aladdin, WY & staying at a B&B. 118 miles
Day 2 Aladdin to Buffalo. Motel in Buffalo. Have some options routes with this section. 198 miles
Day 3 Buffalo to Spearfish Motel in Spearfish. Again, an option for some really cool riding/scenery 128 miles
Day 4 Spearfish to Hill City Motel in Hill City. A short day through some nice scenic areas 88 miles
Day 5 Hill City to Hot Springs. Motel in Hot Springs. This appears to be another long day but, have options. 188 miles
Day 6 Hot Springs to Custer. A short day so everyone can get loaded & start heading toward home if they want. 55 miles.

I've tried avoiding as much blacktop as possible. So, Spearfish Canyon, Needles Highway etc. aren't included. You may also notice the area from Hoover to Sturgis to Hill City is different from the published DakAL tracks.

I'm still working on lodging. I'll let you know as soon as I have things finalized. When the time comes, you will be responsible for making your own reservations asap.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I'd like to be on this ride,a lot of life occurs between now and Sept for a Farmer. If I can arrange to be there for the full week, I could possibly have Teresa follow (loosely put) with a support vehicle, including gasoline and coolers, and plenty of space for gear stowage. It would be my Dad's Colorado 4wd,pulling a trailer that could hold a lot of gear. This is an offroad capable trailer, that I used to pull behind my camper with a generator and other gear. Let me know what you think of this option. I just don't know if I can get a full week off at that time of year. Mary and Teresa could ride in the Colorado,it could work, it really could. (trying to convince myself)

Sounds good. Nels offered his pickup as a chase vehicle too, with Mary & Marlene doing the chasing.
