All-purpose ride gear?

All-purpose ride gear?
I plan on getting new gear this spring, and want a jacket and pants that I can use all year, on both my Concours and CRF. I've looked at Aerostich, KLIM, and Aplinestars. I would be ok with a slightly lighter jacket that I could layer underneath. Biggest thing is that I want it all to be waterproof. After figuring out at South Shore that my waterproof icon boots were too short and fill up with water, I am also looking for tall boots for riding the CRF. Any suggestions?

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
No such thing.

Get seperate street and dirt riding gear.

MX gear for serious off-road riding and a stitch for everything else.

It will cost more but you will be happier.

Melt easy, or trap too much heat inside? Is it the roadcrafter?

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
With my limited experience I agree with Jayd. Two separate sets. The off road stuff just gets to dirty to quick. I love the one piece Stich for ease of on and off but for me it puddles in the crotch and soaks through if I ride in the rain for long periods. I have heard the two piece sets do not have that issue.

I still need to get off road gear I have been using my left over road gear and a few new odds and ends

That's the one a little flared out at the bottom right? Have any updraft issues? My firstgear jacket like that is super drafty

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
2 piece roadcrafter, melts to easy as do all synthetic gear.

No puddling like the one piece.

The MX gear is easier to ride off-road and not as hot as street gear.

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
if you are going to order stich make sure you do it now, the deciding factor for why I didn't go with them was back in April it was a 6-8week wait, might be quicker this time of year.
I like my Klim.

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
Kory,
I agree with everyone else here that it's very difficult to find gear that works well for both on and off road. The latest trends toward adventure touring have resulted in some gear that would be the closest to that. But, I personally have probably 3 different setups for street and for offroad because every day is different. So, to replace all that gear with one set that worked well would be impossible. On the street side, I am really impressed with the Firstgear products. I've seen their new rainier jacket in person and was impressed with the technology. Also, the way they have improved the heated gear to make it a good layer choice even when not plugged in really seems like it would work well. I have been impressed with the performance of my Kenya jacket this last season. Once you ride off-road with off-road boots, you won't want to use anything else. But, just like the rest of the gear, if you cheap out, you will not be happy til you buy the good stuff, so just bite the bullet right away. Fun Sports can help you with most brands, and i'd even give you the friendly discount.

Yes, in fact I have some that I wear myself (cuz I fall off a lot). There are a few brands and choices that we can get. Call me at work at 320-587-9505 and we can discuss options. And, that would give me a chance to repay you for the 6 hours you spent saving my day in Iowa!

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
I just bought a pair of KLIM Dakar pants for off road use.

Dennis Kirk has a Black Friday, Cyber Monday special if you buy the pants you get a Jersey for Free a $55.00 value. Free shipping also.

I put the hip pads on my Christmas list.

Still need to get some upper body protection and jacket.

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
I used a friend's Roadcrafter light one piece today to go 10 miles to work. It was 3 below zero. I really liked it, and just wondering what one piece owners think of theirs. Besides the crotch leaking when it rains, that is. I'm thinking that I need to go to Duluth in the spring and get one for myself.

Alvin - I'll still be visiting you in the spring to get a chest protector, jersey, pants, and boots for the dirtbike. My ICON street stuff just isn't up to that job.

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
After testing my first one it was easy to replace it with another one piece. I went to Duluth and got sized, then craigslist found the 1st one at half price. Some people like the 2-piece better. I've never tried one.

RE: All-purpose ride gear?
Kory,
What size are you?? I know of a Stich 1 pc, like new that will be sold cheap.. It's a 48R in blue and silver.

I'm a fan of Aerostich Darien equipment. Always keeps me dry, and other than a pair of pants, all of the stuff I've got was purchased on eBay for 1/2 price or less, in like new condition.

That said, Klim stuff is also deserving of high marks, but I've found it to be pricey and seldom available used.

Yeah, you'd swim in this..

Just 2 weeks ago there was a Aerostich jacket on eBay.. It was OLD, but in great shape.. I emailed Andy on it and he said it was first or second year of production.. Kinda nice to see a jacket survive 29 years..

I got mine for $35 shipped. Check his eBay store because there are usually a few in auctions; I just put up the buy-it-now link

It's no Alpinestars quality jacket, but it is dirt cheap and will work for me. Hard plastic with perforated foam under it, mesh jacket and built in kidney belt.
