Road Rally Rules Changes
We have modified GLMC road rally rules, changing "Two-Up" to our new "Team Class" and defined how the new class will work. We have also amended the photography rules to follow more closely what we have been doing for the past few years. We have also tried to clarify a couple of the other existing rules.

Do all motorcycles for a team have to finish for the team to finish? Example, three riders take off, one bike dies, they finish on two bikes, one of which is now 2-up. Does that come as a finish, finish with penalty, or dnf? Rules that I think are involved below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. If you do not finish the event on the same bike that you start the event on, a penalty will be assessed. For a 12 hour rally the penalty will be 10,000 points. For a 24 hour rally the penalty will be 20000 points. 20.4. Team Class--Any group of two to four riders who complete as a team. Two-Up riders are automatically in this class. A novice riders riding with other novices, experienced, and/or expert riders will compete as team members in the Team Class. Novice Team Class riders forfeit their "novice status" at their next rally. Novice team riders remain entitled to any novice discount on their entry fee during their first rally regardless of Team Class 41. Team Class Riders must ALL be present at ALL bonus locations collected. They may not split up to collect bonus and must finish the rally together. If one rider of a team DNF's (does not finish on time), all the riders in his team will be considered DNFs. 42. Photo bonuses that are collected by Team Class riders must have ALL the riders of the team present in the photo except for the member taking the photo. http://www.youtube.com/korysrides |

I think this rule number answers your question. The way I am reading it: competes as a team and finishes as a team or DNF. . |

Lapchik is asking about if a bike dies. In that instance, a team member could go pillion on one of the other members bikes to finish.
However, then that member (now pillion) would be finishing the rally on a DIFFERENT bike, and possibly subject to the 10,000 point deficit rule? It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. |

I wonder what brought this rule change on? Probably that damn group of people always riding together.
So lets just say that same damn group people brought 6 people to ride together, would that be two separate teams? If each person enters as a single paying the $60 and then team up once we arrive, are we able to change our status to Team? I am sure more questions will come up but I have to touch base with my damn group of people and find out who is all going and if we want to run in teams or single. I think the Pillion riders will probably eat anyone alive that is riding on two or more separate bikes. Thanks! Can't wait to go! If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen. |

But, we did it as a family and it was a great time. It was a brothers / Uncles / Nephews weekend and it will be something that we will always remember. I don't even know yet if we are all coming back or just a couple of us or more of us. I just want to know what our options are if we decide to run solo, as teams, or as a group. And remember Prop, it is your fault that we even know about this rally! If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen. |

This exact question was asked and it was decided by the group that a team would be limited to a maximum of 4 riders. Can be 2 people on one bike, and two individual riders or any combination you get the idea.
I think the question regarding dead bikes etc. has been covered. Steve, I hope to see you back at this event and many others. The issue of team riding and lack of enough two up riders to make that class competitive is why we are giving this a try. These had been issues long before we were lucky enough for you to come participate and I am proud of a group willing to try something new and see how it goes. This and most decisions are made at our two group meetings. One held in the Fall and the other in Spring. Discussing, debating, and making these and other decisions via the forum and internet was found to be non productive. There can be poll but nothing fundamental will change for this riding season without a club meeting. I want to thank Brion for updating the rules and trying to get everything covered. We are not lawyers and we are just trying to put something together that hopefully will be a good memory for everyone. It's not a competition, It's a demonstration. I don't remember a talk on a cap on the number of riders on a team in the fall. Must have only been talked about in the spring meeting, if only I could read a calender correctly...
I don't like rules that restrict anyone from wanting to ride a rally, wouldn't more team members make it more difficult? I only rode once in a "team" for our first rally, if this was a rule back then not sure what we would have done. I'm not a fan of this rule and I know we didn't talk much about it in the fall meeting (at least during the official meeting) doesn't really apply to me since my old teammate is too busy to rally right now anyways I guess *Edit: just making sure no one reads this as me being super pissed, I only get that way at work or towards my printer, or in CA on day 7 of the ibr. What part about the dead bike is unclear. If you are in a team of two riders on two separate bikes and one bike dies and you ride back two up you are arriving on a different bike and that rule applies.

There was not talk of a cap in the fall but we did it at the spring meeting when we decided we were going to give this a try. Many options were discussed and the number of 4 was agreed upon. No doubt that I will be back along with Chris. Doug and Eric haven't committed yet. But I know I have sold the rally to at least 2-3 people and maybe as many as 5 new people. We don't plan on running as a large group, we are looking at options of running solo or if someone doesn't own a GPS running as a team. I don't have a problem with the new rule, my original post was me poking at my silly group more than anything and having an understanding of the rule. We are mere guests in your world, what you say goes. I think my biggest question would be the signing up as solo and then changing to a team? I am sure we would be much faster solo but we didn't enter the rally with winning in mind, we were joking about coming in last the entire time. We came to the rally for something fun to do.
