Winter Sucks
Just finished scooping the side-walk, waiting for it to blow back in. Hoping the mail lady gets here before that happens. Dreaming about motorcycles. Winter sucks, just saying.

Planning a dirt and gravel ride. Mostly southern IA, but a little Illinois and up to Burlington, IA. Working on getting all the counties in Iowa ridden to, only have the lowest two rows to go. Might even make it a saddlesore...on the CRF250L!

There is an IBA pre-approved gravel route. I have the tracks if interested. Mike Senty (LDHack) attempted a few years ago on a RT 1200. He had to abandon at 950 miles because of heavy rain & thunderstorms.

Myself, I'm planning to head out again on my gravel/off pavement route toward Alaska.

I'd like those tracks. Is it the Nebraska/Colorado one?

RE: Winter Sucks
Saturday night Jack ("One More State") Backer and Randy ("Field of Broken Dreams") Roos were both nominated for the "Big Johnson" awards at our Big Sioux Riders Christmas Party/Annual Meeting. The award is basically for the biggest screw up or funniest thing which happened to someone during of the year. We decided a couple years ago that non-members would be eligible to win. I won't go into the details, but they were both beaten out by Tom Fountalakis with his unique theories on tire pressures. Kory was not re-elected VP, so he should have more time to dedicate his new GLMC secretary position, hehe.

It was -18 here Sunday when I checked, not cool but damned cold.

If they'd have heard the story of Randy's successful 8 second ride along Slim Buttes, he'd have won hands down! Smile

I have heard the story from you, but I can not tell it with the authenticity and humor of the story telling Sleddog. Loyd L. also was nominated for "hypothetically" dropping card board into his gas tank and then later nearly destroying his gas tank while removing it. The weather Saturday really did suck.

RE: Winter Sucks
I'm looking at a spring ride. Hopefully Jack you can assist.

I hope to leave the Friday before Memorial Day with Ann and take two day to get to the Black Hills. Ride the Black Hills for three days, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday ride east to the Twin Cities to meet friends on Thursday. Then head to Hiawatha Rally for the Weekend.

Jack (or anyone else) can you take the ADV loop and come of with three days of dual sport riding where we end up in a motel each night? Ann has never been to the Black Hills so some of the main attractions will need to be hit. Maybe we are better off taking it as a black top trip with limited gravel in order for her to see the main sights.

Another option: I have never participated in one of your rallies. Possibly go the the Bonzai Rally in Lacrosse over Memorial Day weekend. Ride around WI and MN and then go to the Hiawatha Rally.

Interested in all of your thoughts.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: Winter Sucks
Eddie,

The DakAL ride is a combination of DS gravel & pavement, & was designed to take riders to some of the must see areas.
No problem staying in motels each night. There are in motels in Hills City, Hot Springs, Spearfish, Buffalo & Sturgis.

It would be great for you to participate in the Bonzai....

Maybe I should do the Bonzai, ride SE WI with Ann and then the Hiawatha Rally in the spring and do the DakAL with a friend in the Fall.

Or

Bonzai, then the TWAT again, loop into the UP and skip Hiawatha.

Or

DakAL in the spring for the entire time and skip Hiawatha

Or

Head to Texas and skip everything up north until later in the year

Or

Go to WV and ride the Hatfield And McCoy trails.

Damn, so many options.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: Winter Sucks
Yes Cruzin I know The Buttlite is even years and The IBR is odd....I'm modding the FJR heavily and doing a lot of testing this summer in prep for next year. Smile

Lapchik you can check the link but I'm pretty sure I was at this event this year. And the first or second to register!!!!

http://glmc.org/buffalo-results-2016.pdf

Only proof of the Bonzai is a pic of a bunch of drunks and dollar bets. Wink

My focus will be The DakAL and MN100 but plan on making a few GLMC events.
