RE: DakAL Trip Planning
History has been an attrition rate of about 50%, which will give us 8-10. Breaking up into groups of 4-5 is good & can work if all 16 show up. We have some experienced group riders that can be recruited to lead if needed. Everyone arrives at the same destination each evening.

I'll be at the IMS most of the day on the 4th. For anyone that would like, we could meet at the concession tables at 2:00 PM. Usually have a M&G after the show too.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I agree about the attrition. I was however hoping we'd be camping so if we have too many people when we get closer to side stands up we could split up that way. I just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone else was thinking along the same lines.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Absolutely! Anyone could camp. There may be people that don't want to pay for Trail or CSP access. That's fine. Plenty of opportunities & story telling in the evenings. Much like we do when in Mexico....except for the Hamburgesa part Wink

It is but that is a risk I'm willing to take whenever I take off on a solo trip.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

Life, it is all about balancing risk and rewards.

I thought it was you just didn't want the angst of watching me fall down Smile

I bid my vacations in November and my plan when I bid it was to do this ride.

I'll be at Merlin's on Saturday with the twin cities group too.

I will also be at the bike show. And while I say I will be "at" the show, between, breakfast with X group, lunch with Y group, and afterparty, I seem to have a limited time to walk the floor :-) If we decide to meet at the concession tables @ 2:00, I will be there.

No, didn't want anyone to see me fall over. That would bruise my massive ego.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Slightly OT. Has anyone done the Dakota 600 and what did you think of it? Pictures look awfully inviting. I would ride my 500 exc on that one.

Bill Hearne has been encouraging me to try it since I moved up here. I was seriously considering it last summer but ended up riding the Idaho BDR with some old friends.

I suspect it is pricey since it seems to be a fundraiser, but for a good cause. I could never get myself to spring for the $1500 for the Colorado 600.

I am considering it again this year, if I can get myself up for two drives out there.

thanks.

Bill's been trying to get me there too, not going to happen!

It costs more in SD.....

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
I would be down with camping also Brant....or stay in a motel.....
I think camping would be more fun depending on the weather?!?!?!

Would give me a reason to actually pack gear on my KLR for more than a day ride!!!!

Is there a group going to MOAB this year?

I'm down for camping/motel combo also..

Moab sounds great, went last spring (first week of March) on the 450 and had a great time.

RE: DakAL Trip Planning
Moab is looking like it will be "on" for 2017. There are a couple of folks that have expressed an interest.
The dates floating around right now are April 1st to the 8th. Lots of planning and logistics still to be had.
Jeep Week starts the 8th, so the timing would work well.
Alex is looking for at least 1 other rider for the Gold Bar, Golden Spike, Poison Spider loop :-) this year. Maybe ride it the reverse of last year. If you are interested, PM me with your email address and we will invite you to the Moab Google Group.
Thanks,
Rich

So here is a little vid to stir the souls of both young and old in the long winter months as we wait for Moab and the DakAl :-)
It is put together by the guys at Traction eRag. If you are not a subscriber, you should be, Google it!
Since a few of us would hope to still be riding at 76 years young......or wish to be 40 again and have the madd skillz of Graham Jarvis...

Love me some Black Hills adventuring!
I'm as in as I can be eight months out.
My window for the mc show is limited to Friday evening so I'll miss the crowd on Saturday. Behave!
