Now accepting nominations for 2022 Grand Tour Rallymaster.

Ajayhawkfan, you up for it?
I can help the next rallymaster, but would like to step down from the head position.

Also, thanks for starting the thread.
What ideas do you all have for grand tours?

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
Sorry, I don't have time to run the challenge.

My thought for the 2022 would be History Challenge.

Battlefields, Historic Forts, War Memorials, Military History Museums and Arlington National Cemetery. The bonus could be the grave of a Medal of Honor recipient (no more than 2 per state).

To document the location a picture is needed in front of either 1. historic marker, 2. sign naming the spot 3. something unique at the location. Example of No. 3, a picture of your bike near Little Round Top at the Gettysburg Battlefield.

Only one picture is allowed per location. (At Gettysburg you can't use the museum and Little Round Top.)

Statues of military leaders, military aircraft and armaments are not acceptable. National Cemeteries are not allowed (except Arlington), unless it is associated with a Battlefield. Example, a picture of the Gettysburg National Cemetery would be acceptable. The National Cemetery at Leavenworth would not because it is not associated with a battlefield.

Does this website have the capacity to host a lot of pictures?

The reason I'm asking: I think it would be of interest to everyone if the participants of the challenge started their own thread were they could post pictures while doing the ride challenge. I believe it would also make it easier to score for the rally master.

Those that can't post pictures or chose not too could sent in the results as they have in the past.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
It's not easy to upload pictures to this site, and there is a size limit. Easier to have a different site host the image, like Facebook/ADVrider/smugmug or whatever and just embed a picture link here.

Something highlighting local [non-chain] businesses might be good, seeing how hard the last year or so has been on them.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
What about a scavenger hunt style tour? Go out and wander around! Just a list of items to find, combo bonuses, and no specific towns/locations.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
These are all great ideas.

I think the logistics of doing the photo-hosting type tour would be too much unless someone has the time to set all of that up.

For anyone who might be considering taking the reigns as the GT lead, the main thing you would be doing is designing the tour/rules and then answering the questions of riders and scoring the submissions at the end of the season.

I can help with shirt designs and ordering, sign-ups/ridemaster, or other behind the scenes stuff.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
I would consider doing the GT lead. I don't ride so many miles now with only having the CRF, and prefer to wander on dirt vs. pound pavement. If nobody else wants a shot, I would take it.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
I just watched a piece on CBS Sunday Morning about 911 memorials. There are over 500 of them at various locations across the country. Most are located in the east; making a 911 specific GT difficult. Although combining with other memorials is possible.
There is a memorial located at the International Peace Gardens on the US/Canada border in North Dakota.

I hereby nominate you for the next GT master.
We can discuss details and formalities at the next monthly meeting, whenever that occurs.
Like I said, I'm happy to help or handle a bunch of the behind the scenes stuff.

So glad you stepped up to be the Chief Grand Tour Master. These GT's have been some of the best riding I have done. You guys keep up the good work.

What are thoughts on an easy to plan GT [city names like in the past] vs a real scavenger hunt type GT?

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
I kind of like the 911 idea. Could we do something like an aircraft crash and disaster sites theme which includes all the 911 sites as well? I think there are lots of them around. You could give extra points for the three major 911 crash sites.

For lack of a better word, it's kind of a morbid going to a bunch of places people have died or been killed, but it is interesting.

Would you be able to announce the theme at the banquet?

It could probably be announced, but I'm not sure that I can make it to the banquet.

RE: 2022 Grand Tour
Thinking of a planes, trains, and automobiles theme with some special combo bonus points. Just need some time to compile a list. Won't be all memorials, but there will be some.

9/11 sites
Music related [Buddy Holly/Metallica/etc]
Historical sites related to theme
Firsts/records
etc
