Dual Sport Adventure Rally
I don't have anything about the rally specifically right now, but I thought I would start a thread for it.

What I do have is an idea to do a [mostly] gravel ride to Keokuk, IA and back after the rally. I'm trying to ride to every county in Iowa and need quite a few of the bottom two rows of counties. I plan on camping somewhere by the river in Eastern Iowa. This would be a day out, day back kind of ride. No route in particular other than what I need to get a tire into each county I haven't been to yet. If anyone is interested in following me wander around, I should have a route in a week or so.

Of course, all this is if I don't pull a stunt like I did last year and can actually ride after the rally.

We have a few people committed to coming, but no actual signups yet. If you are signed up can you post something to that affect here?

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
I'll be sending mine in this week. I'll be in the neighborhood that weekend dropping off the fiance so she can fly to Florida. I'd take Iowa dirt over Florida sand any day.

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
I hope to make it but it depends on filling the KC PD Motorcycle training class held the same weekend. If not filled I'll need to attend that class.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

Damn I so wanted to go but I'm out. At least I'm out for a good reason. I'll be in Texas at a baby shower for my daughter. Our first grandchild is on the way.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

Congrats Eddie!

Riding down to Texas?

It is an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem.

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
So I just talked with Frump this evening and here is a general idea of what to expect.

1. camping is available at my house (anytime)...motor homes included. Wink
The Underwood Motel is 3 miles east if you want a room or classy stuff in Council Bluffs.
2. Friday night we will have a grill and the house available for bring ur own meat dinner. Please try and let me know when your arriving so I can get a head count for side dishes.
3. Saturday we will provide breakfast, lunch during the break, and dinner after the rally. (worth the $25 right there) I would say breakfast on Sunday but ghost don't eat. Smile
4. Expect the same format as last year, level B's (minimum maintenance), gravel, some pavement, and goats...... yes GOATS!!!!!!....and maybe some chickens?
5. Yes there will be a timed/mandatory bonus....or two?
6. You might also want to work on your South Western Iowa/Loess Hills accent
7. Oh and BTW I will NOT be giving out gpx files, you will get road intersections/or addresses/Parks so you might want to have some paper maps to go with your fancy GPS. I will have maps hopefully for Pottawattamie County.
8. This rally is setup to entertain beginner riders and test some of you higher skilled riders both.....so come out and have fun

So what don't we know at this point?
1. When bonuses will be handed out....were working on that
2. Exact time of each leg and break?.....meh
3. Will there be a few Grand Tour possibilities?......maybe, which would be the only reason you should need a camera

Blinky and I also have our KLR650 and DR200 to loan out if someone needs a bike.

Can't wait to see what replies/questions we get on this... Dodgy

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
Just emailed my registration and paid via Paypal. We have four of s coming from Minnesota hopefully you can get some locals to participate.

You might want to post up on Adventure Rider, Facebook and anywhere else you can think of. If you put the links here I will try to keep the chatter going.

I have some entry forms and waivers printed out for those of you who can't get off the fence, but please sign up ahead of time if you can to Chad and Jean get enough food (OK, that's probably not ever going to happen, but just in case).

5. Hopefully I won't have to stop every hour for a 2up like I did on the last Sioux City Buffalo rally and miss the timed bonus by a single damn minute.

7. What, did Weatherhead organize this rally? No lat/long? Even on paper?

Entry form sent in, camping for Sunday night booked. Hopefully I make it to Keokuk and back after the rally. Have a 450 mile route planned for Monday after the rally, better put cruise pegs on the CRF.

Your choice in 2up partners slowing you down is not my problem.....but I might of had a little joy in telling you NO.....just saying

Second....you know Weatherhead is busy with Team Lyle Rallies....just thought I would make you guys remember what it was like before Mapping software and GPS. Besides I'm not saying you can't use these things.....I'm just giving you the info in a different format. A smart young guy like yourself might figure a way to use the info AND your computer/GPS.....maybe Wink

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
Okay so The big crazy question to every rally....
When do I give out bonus information?

The rally will be ran pretty much like last year. With that said would it be helpful to give locations out early but no point values(or any other way)? Level B roads will be tagged with signs like last year and some question bonuses along the way. I'm looking at 30 bonuses total....or so. I don't want people wasting riding time planning routes but there are that many fun roads in the area.

BTW this is just for the afternoon/leg 2 part. That crazy Frump has a different plan for you in the morning.....hehehe

Like to hear what everyone thinks about this?

Also there is still time to sign up!!!!! Smile

I've even got a couple of local riders that might show up.....home field advantage. Wink

So grab your bike and a friend and come have fun

Carol? Jean has a bed saved for you. Smile
Randy?
Cruzin?
Farmer?
Mr. & Mrs. Sleddog (we can build a ramp up the deck if needed for the handicapped Smile )
Alvin?
Beth or Scott (flip a coin and make one suffer and let the other have fun Dodgy )

Who wants to be rider of the year?.....

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
I'd like to have locations early with no point values. Avoid tedious data entry. Should be a test of route planning, not tech savvy-ness.
