Tubeless tires on tube rims?

Tubeless tires on tube rims?
Well, I just got my Kenda K761 tires today, website said tube type, and the sticker on the tire says tubeless. Angry Well, the CRF250L has tubes. I can't send the tires back, and don't care to lose money and time on selling them to someone else. Is it possible to put tubeless tires (with tubes inside them) on tube type rims? What are the issues that arise from that?

Cory
You can run tubes in tubeless tires.
The tires are marked to show, that they can be run in a tubeless application.
Walk up to the next bike with Dunlop Bias ply tires on it and the tires will be marked tubeless.
No, matter the type of rim.
Hope this helps

I assumed that it was ok, with all the different tires on GS adventure bike spoked rims. I have never tried to do it, so this will be a first. This is also going to be the first set of ice stud tires for me also.

It's okay to do. It's common practice to run a tube inside of a tube tire after a small puncture, to provide a little extra protection. I think Reaver is running a tube on his rear sporty tire after picking up a screw.

RE: Tubeless tires on tube rims?
The big no-no is running a tube tire on a tubeless rim without a tube.. It's all about the bead size and if it'll seal.. The bead is smaller to allow use of a rim lock. If you plan on running rim locks (used due to low tire pressure, as in below 20psi) you might fight the lock a bit on on a tubeless tire like the 761.. If you're not running the rim locks you won't have any issues at all.. I've never ice raced so I don't know what pressures are normal.

I've run 761's on my KLR (tube style rims) with no issues at all..

I know I have a second hole in my rims that currently has a rubber plug in it. I am guessing that is for a rim lock, but why/where/how would I use rim locks?

Rim locks are used on most off road bikes because the tire pressure is low enough to allow the tire to spin on the rim, causing the air valve to be sheared off of the tube.

Typical off road pressures are 10-14psi, and it's just not enough pressure inside the tire to keep enough friction on the rim.. Crank on the throttle, or hit the brakes hard, and the tire can slip on the rim.. The tire will try to take the tube with it, and the valve can't spin.. Then you're sitting in the middle of nowhere, with a tube that can't be repaired. Smile

If you're running higher tire pressure, the chance of the tire slipping is minimal.. 20psi or more, the rim lock isn't needed, and worse, if you're dual sporting and are riding at highway speed, that rim lock is a lot of weight to screw up balance.

RE: Tubeless tires on tube rims?
Rim locks are put on real dirt bikes so you can run the tire pressure low without spinning the tire off the rim. Dual Sport bikes usually don't have them installed from the factory.

It's basicly a stud with a rubber thing on the back side that presses the tire to the rim...a real treat to change Sad
