RE: 2014 Grand Tour Trash Talk'n, Picture Posting, Whatcha Doing Thread
Well the weather finally got into the 60's and even breached 70. Pot holes were not as bad as I expected, but sand sand every where but not a castle in sight.
Some of the highlights This was a biggie...there was a guy inside without any pants on. Apparently he was washing them. I don't know how times I have ridden past this place and wanted to take a picture. Finally a reason to do so. I had a picture of the door and decided to step back and get the whole enchilata You can follow where I have been at this place http://www.flickr.com/photos/75128174@N0...895973184/ when I get around to it...might even write a little ride report. Did one on breakfast and these guys followed me around for 2 stops http://nomadwillie.blogspot.com/2014/04/...ikers.html Willie IBA #32847 - GLMC 439 - 2008 Yamaha FJR - 2015 Spyder RT-S - 2023 Spyder RT-Limited |

But, I am at 36 points with not really making any plans to go out for sites, just getting sites as I ride along. That could be doubled if "LL" ( but not the ones in ville) would count. It is amazing how many LL not ville towns there are (Hilliard, Caldwell, Williamsburg to name a few) out there. A double LL town would make a nice wild card bonus in a certain ride in July...maybe a progressive bonus up to a total of 5. And just to give the rider's a chance to screw up, have the same LL rule. Yeah, it sucks to have more time than income - I get that. Not sure how much I believe them words though, JohnF. I've learned to never underestimate (and to admire) your competitive spirit.
I'm glad myself that double Ls don't count as they are so numerous. A person could build a pretty big tally without having to travel big miles. Like the Z to A, there are some fertile areas and some rather arid zones - a good thing imo. My current GT total is zero. I've ridden 18 miles so far this season, the distance from the shop to my garage. That will change though starting on Monday. Oh, and the Borg shall not defeat the Hack. You may mark it down now. |

[/quote] let's just say that I have the entire last week of the contest slated for an all out massacre. I also have 4 other weeks to play with not counting evenings and weekday rides. I most certainly cannot let the hack catch the Borg!!!!!! I'm even planning a trip to go see "The King of GT's" (JohnF) along with Haley.... and maybe Blinky. I have a lot of fun planned for this year. I might even be in the neighborhood of The Hack but I will assume he will be out GT'ing somewhere. Chad "Shooter" Churchill GLMC #447 |

pppfffttttt.....
my 3day triple digit assault starts Good Friday at 6a.m. with a tennis tournament and KY derby qualifier to watch/"work" added in on Saturday just to keep it interesting. The following week sees me on the road for two weeks with a bunch of time and gt's to be had.IF everything goes right, all of the IN gt's should be done by June 1st. :-D let the catching up begin. |

RE: 2014 Grand Tour Trash Talk'n, Picture Posting, Whatcha Doing Thread
2014 Easter weekend assault
So the three day weekend came up and I happened to have some free time, what better way to spend it than riding my bike & GT hunting…and staying WAY ahead of SHOOTER. For those that don’t know, I live in NW Indiana (in the flat section) and near Chicago. SO, instead of boring you with endless photos of VERY straight roads, here are some highlights of my GT hunting so far. Friday dawned cool (50’s) with the promise of 60’s sometime in the afternoon. I geared up, met my friend Patrick and off we went. Not much really exciting happened other than riding flat and very straight (pot holed) roads with a few gravel roads thrown in for fun. Yeah, my Goldwing is an Adventure bike! I even managed a couple of water crossings… Anyway, the Highlight of Friday was riding up to this town on our way home. I helped design not only this sign but several of the buildings in this town. Aberdeen, IN Saturday saw us up before dawn to take my daughter to skool for tennis. She had to ride the bus, I got to ride the bike and snag GT boni along the way. Not much exciting happened as again, it FLAT and the roads are STRAIGHT here. I did manage to find a couple of curves and rode them twice. No pictures though, I was too excited turning my handlebars. Obligatory GT pic… Rensselaer, IN H.S. Off to watch the tennis tournament for a couple of hours. Time out to watch Tennis Tournament more watching tennis Emily & Me SO…end of tournament (they lost) and back home just in time to pick my daughter Emily up from skool and head to the track to watch the Illinois Derby. Emily has rode in the GT with me the past couple of years and we’ve been accumulating better and better gear for her. I scored a suit for her off ADVrider and she got a new helmet at the IMS show this February. Emily checking herself out... Father Daughter... So off to Hawthorne Race Course we went. With the compressed schedule of the day, we had to slab it into Chicago so no photos. I did enjoy waving (like a sugared up 5 year old) at the people waiting for the trains. Most were oblivious, a couple people half-waved, and one waved back wildly. Anyway, time for me to go to “work”…I am an Equine Photographer and sell stock images from the race tracks. The KY Derby qualifying races happen to be in the neighborhood so this is what we came here for… horses down the back stretch While waiting for the IL Derby, this guy dropped in… Parachute with flag …AND THEY’RE OFF. Thru the first turn...MY horse is in the lead! side by side to the wire! PHOTO FINISH! so...who won? It was a photo finish and it took a while to determine the winner. The inside (grey) horse lost by >< that much…or by a nose. Yup, $500K decided by less than an inch. Gas Money! – yup, we picked three (out of the 4 tickets) and won enough to ride the whole GT this year on a $2 wager. Midnight Hawk...enjoying the day. He’s owned by several Chicago Blackhawks coaches (and Mike Tice former Bears O coach) and suffered the same fate today as the hockey team did...a loss. Sunday dawned, I rode some more flat and very straight roads. Not much to report…except this: 103-ish DONE...so far. HA! Take that Shooter! |

I've only picked some of the low-hanging fruit so far. The weather, she has not been kind in Minnesota. Not worried though. No one wins these things in April. |
