RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
My goal is to have fun.
I'm all for getting the locations and doing the boring data entry early. |

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
My personal thought is give you ALL the information Thursday night (points included). I don't feel anyone is going to go scouting on their way here. Don't think LSGiant and the Minnesota crew are going to be taking the motor home scouting? Unless maybe if Jayd was driving, that crazy MF will try anything. I like to think everyone is honest and would not cheat. Scouting early wouldn't really save you much time anyhow you still have to drive it during the rally or your mileage won't match your bonuses. Plus the level B signs won't be up till Friday.....lol My theory is take all the time in the world to make your route. The best route doesn't matter if you can't execute it. I like to make a few routes in case weather changes overnight or I change my mind and just want to play and not try and win. So I feel it gives the rider a more enjoyable rally experienced. I also think it keeps some of the crazy routes out by allowing people time to explore options and be efficient not speedy.
Anyone else have thoughts or ideas? Whether your riding in the rally or not.... To us the most important part of running a rally is to make sure EVERYONE has a fun and enjoyable experience riding (not seeing who the fastest route planner is). I also like to feed you VERY well.....and throw in a funny bonus or two. Come on people quit reading and laughing at this thread and sign up you still have time!!!! So.......no mandatory partners right? I very much do not want to have to ride with someone. No offense intended; I ride a bit more . . .exuberantly or, shall we say, spirited . . .something like that . . .when I am on the Honda and don't want to endanger anyone. My pace is a bit more than most care to keep up with.

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
The Phase #1 Rider's Meeting will be at 7:45 AM in Jean's Kitchen or on Chad's Deck. I'll try to have printed sheets ready to hand out at sunset on Friday (between 8 and 9 PM). You will have plenty of time to plot your winning route Saturday morning. There will be 20 to 25 locations (est). If you aren't going to be there Friday evening or early Saturday morning, and want a listing emailed to you let me know.
I'll try to write the locations so you don't need a GPS, but a GPS is probably going to be helpful. If anyone is unsure of this format or just wants wants a copy of last year's phase 1 packet, message me on this board or email me your email address. I'll not be using odometers in first phase. Each location will require a time and answer to a question (bring a couple pens). I will also be using location markers again this year, randomly numbered between 1 and 99 for many locations. I'll show you an example marker before the rally. Photos will only be required if you can't find a marker (e.g. someone stole our marker). In those cases I will ask for a photo of in both directions of the trail/road you are on only to prove you were there. If you don't want to use a photo, you will have a 1% chance of guessing a marker number if you want to claim it - incorrect guesses will receive -99 points... you only get one guess per location. You can use camera phones or cameras for photos (digital or Polaroid), something with enough detail for scorer to validate. |

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
Gonna bump this to the top again.....
Looks like we will have about 10 or so people so far for the rally. I hopefully have three local riders coming. I think I will send out the leg 2 bonus pack on Thursday sometime with coordinates (maybe Lapchik will quit whining...) and descriptions, still not sure when I will give out points? Maybe Thursday also? Maybe Friday at dinner? Breakfast will be some fruit and cereal, maybe some coffee cake or something. Lunch will be tacos and nacho bar like we did last year. Of course for dinner we will be using The La Caja China to cook some whole chickens!!!!!! My wonderful beans, cheesey potatoes, and a salad to boot. Come on people you still have time to sign up!!!!!!....that is all for now. Chad "Shooter" Churchill GLMC #447 |

The beans are a good start . . . .now if I get those coordinates I will definitely think about probably considering to stop the whining. For sure.

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
Finally a near break in the rain. I got most of phase #1 scouting completed over the weekend. Worked out really well - got to spend Sunday afternoon driving around with my father-in-law tapping into his local knowledge. Got most of my stuff in one or two areas. May not quite as much dirt as last year, but I think most will find it just as challenging. I think some of the gravel sections will be more challenging then last year, but dirt sections will be a little easier... unless it rains Friday night.
We are still accepting entries. Please let us know a head of time if you are thinking about it so Jean and Chad can get right amount of food ready. |

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
I just noticed that on the rally page it says "You will NOT need a camera for this rally".
http://www.glmc.org/dsadventure.php Sounds like we will need a camera. I don't think this will be an issue as I would think that everyone will have a phone with a camera. Just wanted to point it out in case you wanted to notify participants that have signed up. Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend. |

RE: Dual Sport Adventure Rally
You don't "need" a camera per see, but we recommend having one or a cell phone with camera as a backup. If we have a marker at the location and someone pulls it down before the rally, the only way we have to verify you made to the location is with a photo. I didn't place as many markers this year, but there will be still be questions about something significant at each location.

Well, I've only dumped it once. [fell over on the right side, flew off over the top of the bike, knocked into the Concours, and tipped that over. Like I said, be very careful of your surface and front brake] It took about 15-20 times. You learn a little every time you do it. From that practice, I also started riding side saddle [both feet same side] and switching back and forth/side to side while riding down the road. http://www.youtube.com/korysrides |
