RE: DS ADV Rally
Made it through the first test ride. Going to try a different strapping configuration and ride again. All this stuff is still MUCH easier than riding with a passenger.

What I should do at this point, is put my money where my mouth is and get the KLX400 out and do this rally.

But I'm skeered.

Yes, Karma is good and the Husky is thirsty Smile
On the morning ride, can 91 Octane corn sqeezins be found along the way? Even with an extra can, range is a bit limited.

Inquiring minds want to know Smile

You must ride the same bike on both sections to qualify for a "total" score.

If you want to ride two bikes you will have split scores and no overall which would kill your ROTY points. The intent is to ride the same bike on both courses. Besides I want to see the Huskie ride both courses... the KLR has to much good Karma from the BBE last year. Smile

3 weeks to go!!!!!!!!

You won't be forced to go down any specific route... proper judgement and an instinct for self-preservation might be key factors for getting a high score. Come out and have some fun!

I would like to have everyone at Blinky and Chad's house before 7:30 Saturday morning so we can get you registered and get your waivers signed. The rider meeting will start at 7:30 AM Saturday. You will be released at 8:00 AM for Phase #1. Phase #1 will end back at Blinky and Shooter's at 1 AM and will be followed by lunch. We will get directions to their house near Underwood, IA out soon.

Email me your signup form as soon as you can (http://www.glmc.org/dsadv-waiver-2014.pdf). You can pay via Paypal, mail, or at the Rally. We need to get a decent head count by June 22nd.

If you want a t-shirt, you can order one at the event or ahead of time. I'm going to be sending the t-shirts to riders after the event. I will have the design at the Rally.

I have updated the Rally page: http://www.glmc.org/dsadventure.php

Yes. There are gas stations with 91, but plan accordingly. We will try to have some volunteers to help anyone stranded or stuck, but you may need to climb a hill or walk to get cell service or use a land line.

It's hit and miss around here. Casey's generally does not have it, but BP stations almost always do have it.

To any of the numerous rally masters:
Will we need a camera for either portion of the rally?

RE: DS ADV Rally
Everytime someone plays "that" song on the jukebox at Smiles with Miles, my neighborhood bar here in Sioux City, Tommy the bartender walks around the bar and unplugs the jukebox. I sure Tommy "doesn't have a problem with that", but like me he just hates the song. Getting a Charlie Boy sandwhich and playing that song there might have to be a bonus if we ever have a rally near Sioux City again.

I have the following folks signed up so far for the DS Adv Rally. We need some more!! If I'm missing you let me know. I don't know if we have anyone in the 650+ class yet. If anyone needs a loaner bike or just wants to volunteer to help drop me a note. The t-shirts should be pretty cool.

RE: DS ADV Rally
I'm surprised Charles (KLR250) isn't on there. I know he was talking about trying to make it when we were at the ORPR.

Wolfman tank bag came today. Hope to get a few good test rides in with all my luggage so I know it won't fail on the road. Learned to take test rides with luggage before long trips . . .the hard way.

RE: DS ADV Rally
Found some more awesome places this weekend even after 6" of rain in SC on Saturday. Luckily it was nearly dry a ways south of here. Great views and and fun locations. If you can't tell, I'm getting excited about the DS Adv Rally in a Frumpy sort of way. It's going to be a fun rally because I have room to include some very cool places. I'm encouraging everyone to come, even if they just want to come, camp and hang out.

Also, there will now be mandatory pie bonus during phase #1. I arranged to have someone to make pies, so you all will have to go there or they will be pissed at me. Its not a tricky ride, and there will be a few bonuses near by of varying difficulty.

I also thinking about added a rule which that no one can use Interstate (I-29, I-80, I-xxx) during phase #1. Would have riders sign something agreeing to honor not using them and make it an automatic DNF and exclusion from any future DS Adv Rallys if you are spotted on one of them. Any rider input on that idea? I'm willing to patrol it.
