As long as the name of the county is still on the courthouse its fine by me.

Mike makes the final call but, I consider a mural as art.

You're fist pic is advertising....

You're second pic is art.........

Murals for cities....sponsored by the rotary club or chamber of commerce, etc....would that count as art or advertising? Avon, sd springs to mind as it has the chamber emblem as part of the mural. I think paullina, ia is the same thing

General Locations question
Fun theme, Mike.
Can I get a Mural ( or other General Location theme) and then use a photo of another Mural ( or other General Location Theme) as my "Something Cool...?"

Not really sure on this as I haven't been to either place before. I can dig out some example pictures I guess

Yes you can as long at they aren't in the same exact spot. So a mural in town A could be the Mural location and a mural in town B could be Something Cool.

Aren't we making this harder then it needs to be? If its "sign" for a business painted or affixed onto the side of the building its not really a mural is it? In the photo above the "Home of Paterson Silk" isn't any more a mural then the "Home of the Whooper" sign to the right of the it.

We have entire states to find a mural which works, it should be easy enough to find one which leaves no doubt as to what it is. If you have to ask the question about what you are looking at, then you should find another one which doesn't leave the question open. Just my $0.02.

I agree and was thinking the same thing.
There are so many murals around it shouldn't be difficult to find one that leaves no question.
Just google "murals or public art in or near city/state name" and you'll find a bunch.

RE: Any thoughts on what the Grand Tour Theme is
So if a mural contains art and a salute to local veterans, is it ruled out by also containing a recognized brand name?

Mike makes the final decision, but.....

If I saw that and thought to myself "that looks like a mural, but....", then I would find another mural without a brand name just to be sure.
Like Frump said; if you have to question it, than why not just find another one?

I agree, it isn't like murals are few and far between. If you're unsure just grab a different one.

If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen.

RE: Any thoughts on what the Grand Tour Theme is
Is it okay to use one location for two different generic points? My example is using one Park in Sioux City for the mural and for the something important to me. I want to take my 3 year old daughter to as many Grand Tour spots this year as possible, and the park has a good mural and is also the first place Rowan ever went to on a motorcycle ride. It would be two different pictures.

RE: Any thoughts on what the Grand Tour Theme is
Couldn't those be two separate locations anyway?
The park, a picture of the park sign?, would be the "something important".
The mural would be the picture of the mural?

And if the only sign for the park is the mural, that would give you an opportunity to take Rowan to another mural for another grand tour spot Smile

RE: Any thoughts on what the Grand Tour Theme is
I think the point of the Grand Tour is to get out and ride around a bit, not to see how many locations you can fit into a single picture. The Old court house I got married in has a mural and a Vet memorial so I guess I could knock out 4 in 1 there but I am pretty sure I will do enough riding around that I will find another court house or another mural or another memorial along the way.

If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen.

Try riding with a 3 year old, can't exactly do a lot of miles with her.

RE: Any thoughts on what the Grand Tour Theme is
Since the Leinenkugal's makes up the majority of that picture, I wouldn't consider it a mural. If the company name was the size of their salute to veteran's I'd think differently.

If the exact same sign or thing is used for multiply generic locations (in the words of Teamstrange) you'll be sad.
Gonzo could take 4 different photos around the court house he is talking about, if I can't tell he is in the same almost exact spot and the city is large enough he'd likely get the points. However as he has stated that gives the rider a funny feeling of it not being in the tradition of the tour. I've tried to leave the rules as general as possible. Ultimately as others have been saying: if you don't feel its right, then it isn't.

Reminds me of my GT hunting days where I couldn't find a town sign in a 100 or so people town. 10 miles down the road I found a cemetery with the town sign on it. I didn't take the picture because it didn't feel right. I could have framed the photo to make it look like it was in town.

So in the end I may not have really specifically answered Kory's question, he like everyone has to come up the the answer themselves.

If you stop to take a mural photo and see something cool across the street, that is still within the spirit of the tour.
