RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
If I understand the rules...one can find 50 signs in East Podunk, USA that have the word "beST" in them. And...then find one sign in each state for the specific categories.
I did not see what the categories are for specific locations (doesn't mean it isn't there), when will that list be posted (or where is it posted)? This appears to me a little harder to plan for. Back to the maps. JEF Cincinnati, OH |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
Yes, you can find any location that contain the word "best" or any other word that meets the criteria.
Exact names are only allowed once per state, like First National Bank or Best Western Hotel. There is no list of "specific" locations this year; just find locations that have descriptors that end in the suffix "st". We'll probably see some big numbers this year for locations! |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
It has to have the actual word associated with the picture correct? So if I go visit the World’s Largest Letter “M” in Platteville, which is known as the Largest but doesn't actually have a sign stating the fact it won't count? But my local Best Buy will count correct?
I only ask because I rather go see the world's largest "M" or worlds largest "Round Barn" over going to see my local Best Buy or Best Western but if they don't happen have a physical sign stating the fact that they are indeed the largest I just wonder if it will still count. Also does "Home of the largest, biggest, tallest" count? Like Blank City,Home of the Largest Burger? Or do I need a picture of the burger along with the sign? Another example, "Home of the first Astronaut" on a City sign, does that count or do I need the Astronaut in the picture? Thanks for doing this, my favorite excuse to go ride! Hope my questions make sense. If it's not reproducible, it didn't happen. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
You are correct that the photo needs to have signage or wordage as proof.
I googled the World’s Largest Letter “M” in Platteville and there is a plaque that states what it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platte_Mou...Plaque.jpg Second question;"home of the ........est" counts and you only need a picture of the sign. But it would be more fun to take a picture of the object as well. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Also, please ask away as far as questions. They help others as well. When I send out the files for the Rider Placards I'm going to send these questions out as a sort of FAQ for all the people who don't follow the forum. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
A> Using John F's example East Podunk, USA how many times can East Podunk be used. Is East Podunk Barber Shop and East Podunk Liquors and East Podunk Car Wash be counted as 3 or can we only have 1 East Podunk.
B> If there is a East Podunk in MASS and a East Yahoo in MASS is this only to be used once or is this 2 locations based on the word EAST IBA #32847 - GLMC 439 - 2008 Yamaha FJR - 2015 Spyder RT-S - 2023 Spyder RT-Limited |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
One East Podunk per state regardless of how it's used.
If you find West Podunk, MA, West Yahoo,MA, East Yahoo, MA, and East Podunk, MA, those would each count as one each. If you find West Podunk, AK and East Podunk, AK, those would additionally both count as one each. From the rules: Exact specific names are only allowed once per state. This applies to cities, counties, states, and other named locations such as chain restaurants, banks, hotels, etc. that contain a qualifying “st” word in their name. This generally applies to geographical locations that happen to contain a qualifying word in their name. If in West Virginia, only one location with the name West Virginia, is allowed. Only one Best Western per state. Only one First National Bank per state. Etc. Remember that you are claiming points per qualifying word for a location though. So if you happen to find a location that is the also in East Podunk such as "Largest Apple in East Podunk" you can only claim East Podunk once per state, but you can claim "Largest Apple" as many times as you desire in different geographical locations. In short: The "City/County/State Name Proper" can only be claimed once per state. Hope that makes sense. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
Just to make sure...
Post Office and VFW Post #123 are okay? Old West Steakhouse and Old West Donuts are okay? West Bank and Bank of the West are okay? There are a lot of "wests" out here in the West. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
Yes, but Post Offices and VFW Posts are exact name "chain" locations, they are allowed only once per state.
You can claim a Post Office and a VFW Post, but only once per state. You can claim West Podunk Post Office in California for two points, but after that you can't claim "West Podunk" or "Post Office" anymore in California. So if you also find the West Podunk VFW Post in California, you can claim the "Post" from VFW Post, but you can't claim the West from West Podunk, since you already claimed it from the Post Office and you can't claim any more "VFW Posts" in California. You can claim Old West Steakhouse and Old West Donuts and West Bank and Bank of the West, but only once per state. The only exception (or clarification) to this, would be if you found an extra describing qualifier word. So, if you happened to have already claimed the West Podunk, California Post Office, but in your journeys found the "Oldest Post Office in California," then you can use that photo for one point, using a sign that includes and claiming the "Oldest" word for one point for that location. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
That is a chain, so one Baptist Church per state claiming the "st" from Baptist.
If you also find the Oldest Baptist Church or Largest Baptist Church, you can claim one point for each of those for their qualifying descriptors of "Oldest" and "Largest" if they have a sign describing them as such, but you can only claim the "st" from Baptist once per state. Theoretically you could find a "First Baptist Church" of Yahoo, MA, which has a plaque claiming to be the the actual "first formed baptist church of Massachusetts". You could claim the word "first" from the describing plaque for one point and "First Baptist Church" for two more points. After that, you can't claim "Baptist" Church anymore for that state. Further down the rabbit hole, you happened to find a First Zion Church in Yahoo, MA which you could claim for the word "First" but you can't claim any more First Zion Churches in that state. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
Just to clarify. If roadside America says it is the world's largest Ox cart. But there is no sign then no points.
Google Street view is not being as helpful as I thought it would be for finding the sign. Not that I would ever spend time at work looking..... In your helmet no one can hear you sing. IBA#61520 |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
Yes, no sign/wordage, no points.
But, when I google "worlds largest ox cart" I see multiple options, at least one of them with a sign. |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
I hope you have a lot of time in October...you're going to have a lot of photos to look at!!
1. Where do National Forest fall? Are they a "chain?" Or is each NF a unique location. i.e. once a rider claims Chippewa National Forest in MN, the other 2 NF's are moot? 2. Is it any word that ends in "st" on a sign? I am having trouble wrapping my head around the idea of what qualifies. i.e. a sign that says, "Right Lane Must turn right." Yay or Nay? 3. Highway (state or US) signs with WEST - and then the appropriate shield for the highway #? First, is that type sign in play? If it is one sign per highway # or 1 sign per highway # per state? I am getting dizzy thinking of all the possibilities. JEF, Cincinnati, OH |

RE: 2018 Grand Tour Questions
1. One forest per state, claiming the word "forest". Unless, you find forests claiming to be the largest, smallest, etc, then you can claim those words.
2. No street/highway/freeway signs, no billboards/advertisements or other such signs. Those signs don't describe or name a specific location, the signs you are looking for, are for proof of or for describing the specific location you are seeking. 3. See number 2. above. |

No green highway signs.
If it's the nice sign that is specific to that city, that's ok. |
