2017 Grand Tour Questions

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Hello everyone!

I'm sorry to continue beating the dead horse...
I have read all the posts regarding the train stations and believe this one will probably not count, but just maybe it will!

Tobyhanna Train Station in Tobyhanna, PA is an abandoned train station that now houses a railway museum yet it is still called Tobyhanna Train Station.

Surprisingly, Pennsylvania does not have much in the way of train stations unless I ride into the heart of Philly or Pittsburgh (which I was hoping to avoid), I moved into western NJ to avoid congested traffic, lol. No biggie if it doesn't count, I'll just skip that extra point.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like a train station to me.
I would submit that if I was you.

@ xander84, thank you!

@ Frump, wow, what a great picture of that building! Its a shame we don't make buildings look like that anymore everything is just glass, concrete and steel boxes. I hope I can get my bike on the other side of the tracks to take that same picture, lol.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Got one more that I need approval on. I finally found a dinosaur in Pennsylvania close enough that I won't be in too much pain from my aching joints....BUT its a dinosaur with a dog's head, kinda.

Any thoughts on if "Boomer" counts?

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions VT 2
VT 2 Specific spot is the landlocked boat at the Shelburne Museum. Based on what I am viewing in Google a picture of the boat, the bike and flag may not be possible.

Plus a picture of the boat may not be possible without paying the entrance fee of 22.00 (pricey but after season it drops to a more reasonable 10.00)

Won't know until I get there but figured I would ask now so I can make some plans now

What is the intent here.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Willie, photo required is the museum itself, a picture of outside (sign, building, etc) is fine: I didn't intend to specify the ship in the required photo.
It is up to you, whether you decide to visit inside the museum.
The landlocked ship was the interesting thing I found regarding the museum, but it isn't required for the photo.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
The weenies at Photobucket decided that I needed a commercial account because I was using their service for "commercial off-site image hosting" for simply having these 2 pics shown here... so I deleted the pictures for this post. Sigh.

Sorry but the PITA with all the questions is back, lol.

Statue of Liberty this time. First, by listing it in NY is fighting words around my neck of the woods Smile New Jersey and NY have been fighting over this for decades. As you can see here, it is clearly in NJ, lol: (PIC DELETED due to aforementioned weenies at photobucket)

But, my real question is this, is this view acceptable, this is the absolute closest a motor vehicle can get to the statue itself without being a delivery vehicle to or employee of Ellis Island. It is on a road called Freedom Way in Liberty State Park, NJ (I'm not going to use this park as one of my state parks): (PIC DELETED due to aforementioned weenies at photobucket)

I only ask because I have to drive about an hour and a half each way on completely un-scenic roads just to get this point and I won't get a better shot even if I head into NYC which adds 1/2 hour-45 minutes of traffic, killer taxis, teeth chattering potholes, tolls and police that aren't very happy with anyone stopping in odd places to take photos of monuments.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance!

Sad RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
So, that Statue of Liberty pic was part of my planned ride this weekend...then the NJ State Legislators couldn't come to terms on a budget so all non-essential state services are closed until further notice since Friday....including state parks, sigh. The good news is I had multiple BBQs to attend, took a beautiful ride around Greenwood Lake with a friend I haven't seen in a while and nabbed a state park on the way home that I could ride through without technically "entering" so it all worked out! A great weekend all said and done!

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
For the dinosaur theme, I know where there is Mural with a dinosaur on it, but it is not painted on a wall, but on a roll down LARGE vinyl sheet that is permanently attached to the building. Will this work?

TIA,

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Would Steamtown National Historic Park count as a train station? I believe it should because there is a ticket counter to purchase tickets to ride a historic steam train, passengers board and depart from the historic building. Another reason, the building is too cool not to be considered.

I love Steamtown !! I have been there at least 4 times grabbing the stamp for the IBA National Park Tour. Have taken the tour where they performed maintenance on the trains and at the time they were restoring a couple engines.

If that isn't a train station, I don't know what is.
