RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Unless the Negro League Baseball Museum (KS-10) moved overnight it is in Missouri and not in Kansas. The coordinates are correct.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Is the Shrine to Long Distance Bikers in Madawaska the Four Corners Park. If so the address is actually 213 West Main St

Coordinates would be 47.35595, -68.33263

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
A couple questions:

1. Can the general locations be found in provinces of Canada?

2. Can we trade mapped waypoints? I have created a gpx file of Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Illinois and Iowa. Looking for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan and others.

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
If everyone gives me a few days I will have a complete gpx file of all the specific locations plus National Parks. Don't think I have the time to do state parks.

I have also found an error I believe?

CO-8 Alfred Packer's grave is listed as Lake City but the coordinates go to a cemetery in Littleton. Alex or Mike?

The grave is in Littleton, Colorado. The coordinates are correct. Lake City is where he stopped for a "snack".

Hey Chad, it was on page 1 also

Is Canada available for general locations?

NY-5 DIRT Motorsports Hall of Fame. The full name is Dirt Motorsport Museum and Hall of Fame. Would that museum be allowed in COMBO C?

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
The peanut is located on the corner of evergreen and 3rd.
300 West evergreen is the middle of the block.

Either address will get you within a couple hundred feet.

Sometimes, you might have to ask a local where something is located. Many times they could have been moved to another location. It's a great way of starting conversations. In a few cases, after I told them what I was doing, they sent me off to something pretty cool or interesting.

And remember the rules. If something isn't where it is supposed to be per the list find something nearby, then when you get home either post or email about it.

Photo composition
For schools, fire departments, diners (and maybe other general locations), does the building have to be in the photo? Many times the sign may be off to the side or in a place where the actual building may not be in the photo. An example would be a school with a long driveway back to the school, but on the main road there is a great sign for the school. (Understand that signs with arrows don't count).

Maybe asked a different way, does the object building have to have the name on it? If "yes" that will make the event a lot more challenging.

Or asked another way...do we have to have a sign with the name and the object building in the photo for it to be accepted?

In my experience very few Train Stations have the word station, depot, or terminal on the building. Often it is just the name of the train stop (town) on the building. Maybe others have different experiences, but this requirement will eliminate a lot of the beautiful old stations that Sleddog is looking to see!

TIA,
JEF

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
First question - the sign is good and perfectly acceptable, it's the location that matters.
But, I don't think the long driveway scenario is common in my experience and it shouldn't be difficult to stage the picture to include the building in most cases.
And you are correct, the signs with arrows or directions to the location, do not count.

Second question - What if the rules were: "the station must include any or all of the following words: station, depot, terminal, or city/town/name of the train stop"
My goal was to have actual train stations; not grain elevators, load stations, switches, etc.
Also, want to avoid the small and multiple commuter/subway/light-rail train stops, that you can find in multitude in any large metro area; unless it's a large hub - like grand central, union station, etc, but these will include the word station or terminal - so they're obviously included.
Does that make sense or what would be a good way to express that?
I'm asking Smile

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
I've never done a motorcycle rally because I didn't think I would enjoy all the thought and preparation required. I was considering the Grand Tour but after seeing all the questions weeks before the event I can see it is probably not for me. I'm sure its addicting but I don't know if its right for me.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Don't be thrown off by all the questions. This is as easy or hard as you make it. If you plan on going to some motorcycle events outside of your state just keep the list in mind and pick the spots up along the way. By the end of the summer I will bet you are a finisher.

It's not a competition, It's a demonstration. "Rowan"

Above is the Hollister, MO Depot (the name is on the end). It is now the Hollister City Hall. Would that count?

I have never done one either so my questions are for my clarity, get them out of the way before the game starts.

I think this looks like it will be fun and I like the specific spots. They are going to be taking me to interesting areas and places that otherwise I would pass by.
