Above is the Hollister, MO Depot (the name is on the end). It is now the Hollister City Hall. Would that count?

Hmm, interesting. I would have thought that would have counted. I even mapped out a "Depot" that is now a museum for one of mine. Guess I will be changing that now haha.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
I don't want to confuse anyone or bog this fun event down with a million definitions; if you have doubt about a general location you've scouted or located, it never hurts to find another, but you will only be scored for one of each of the 7 general locations per state.

Mike is going to be scoring all of these in the fall, so I'm going to define this as best I can and let Mike and the riders interpret the following, as best they can.

GLMC general location #5 rules - "The station must include any or all of the following words: station, depot, terminal, or city/town/name of the train station"
Definition - "Train station, railroad station, railroad terminal, railway station, train depot, depot, terminal, terminus - station where transport vehicles load or unload passengers or goods"
Clarification - The train station doesn't need to be active, but the goal is to find a train station, not a re-purposed location.

Remember - the ultimate goal is to have fun finding cool locations all summer long

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Thank you for clearing that up. That will make it more challenging and more fun.

I'm anxious to get my number and start finding the locations.

I have mapped the specific location in MN, WI, IO, MO, KS, AR, OK, MI, IL, IN, IO, PA, NY, VT, NH, ME, NE

If anyone would like a copy please email me at ajayhawkfan at yahoo dot com

I'm looking for SD, ND and WY if anyone has that.

Thanks,
Eddie

Dust sucks so I'll lead.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
I just completed ALL the Specific Locations. I am working through typos and errors and hope to have a GPX available for everyone by Friday night. Having some address problems and want to double check that all locations are correct.

I want to include all the National Parks also.....gonna be a fun year!!!

I will also send Mike any corrections I found so he can update the list.

I don't need some fancy GPS plotted points, blindly leading me like a fat old beagle chasing a smart, young rabbit. All I need is a list of places, some poorly printed maps, and my crap-tastic memory. It's a lot more fun to just wander about. My annual GT scores reflect my philosophy. I often beat Shooter (who doesn't even submit his GT photos some years).

Oh... just saying.

Gonna start the contest with a BIG BANG on April 1st. Smile

Looks like I will be revisiting some bonuses from the Buttlite and other Rallies and have time to enjoy them a little more. Thanks Mike and Alex for all the work you have put into this!!!

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
ajayhawkfan posted this on the other thread just want to make sure everyone saw it.

I believe the "We are Marshall" is incorrect. Is should be in WV and it shows up in VA on your map.

Correct coords: N38° 22.387' W82° 34.791'

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
"or city/town/name of the train stop"

This would be perfect. It allows the old wooden depot (which is pretty obvious that it is a depot by design) with the town name of the station on the ends. These buildings (including the brick ones, also) are usually really great reminders and visage of a by-gone era. TIA

The GLMC specific location is correct; the one posted above. I believe ajayhawkfan was saying that the coordinates on your GPX file are incorrect.

That is a correct. The coords on the list were correct. The coords on in the GPX file had the location in Virginia.

I received my number. What do that experienced riders do with the number? Do you print and put in a sleeve?

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
I laminate. One for each jacket. That way I'm never without it. LSGiant had stickers last year.

RE: 2017 Grand Tour Questions
Last year, I printed it out in multiple sizes.
I bought some of those self sticking laminated sheets and created a few "flags" that I carried on each bike.

But the sky is the limit;
Those sleeve/envelopes you mention, would be a simple way to carry it.
Some riders used the file to create stickers that they put on their bikes.
Some used posterboard.
Another option, would be to apply it to some of that magnetic sheet.
